Great vid. The .45 was at a clear advantage. It would be interesting if you tried Knight’s ultra-lite setup for elk hunting and Knight’s 10 mm Peregrine. Which I think could take the arrowhead. Great shooting!

While it is cool soo what the different price points buy, this was really a test of the shooters, not the guns. Need to have one guy doing all the shooting to test the actual gun. Shooter #2 was shooting off the forearm for his first 2 shots, then off the barrel for shot 3, not going to get the guns best groups that way. Shooter #3 had the best setup for my money. Thumbs up.

Agree. Josh wanted to shoot his gun sort of like a real hunting situation since he doesn’t use a bipod on his muzzy. Whereas Ryan and myself always have a bipod. I felt bad we didn’t have a backpack for Josh to shoot off of. But he made it work with his shooting bags. We talked about doing a second version the same day like that where one person does all the shooting. But during these times… I like saving my bullets, primers and powder as much as possible. Glad you enjoyed the video!!
@Ducatispo5
@Ducatispo5 2 жыл бұрын
I think that if Josh stopped using powder pellets and went with BH209 measured by weight he would also have a lot more consistency between shots. My own groups tightened up significantly making that change.

Get a t/c impact. Put a good peep sight on it and go hunting. Inside of 200 yds it's as accurate as any of these rifles. I paid $230 for the gun and about 40 for new sights. 250g sst sabots for wa. And 300g hammers for co. Bh209 powder and 209 primers. Unless you enjoy spending extra $ with minimal return, then sky is the limit. In my experience the sst muzzloader bullets hold together much better than the .308 or .284 sst that I have used in a modern rifle.

I dont understand why pellets are so popular. Premeasuring powder and putting them in vials is easy and actually cheaper. You can fine tune you load and get better results. Are pellets really that much easier to load than dumping a small vial down the bore??? I dont think so

@kevincolonel3070
@kevincolonel3070 6 ай бұрын
Josh, it's not the rifle that is holding you back, it's those pellets. Start developing a load using powder, any powder, pyrodex, 777, goex, swiss, bh209. They will all outperform any pellet! Bh209 is the best, but tough to find. Good luck, but with a little experimenting, you can compete with those overpriced rifles. I know this because my CVA Kodiak Magnum with 85gr of pyrodex with 240gr Hornady FTX bullet would have easily won this contest.

Glad I stumbled across this. Planning on buying a bargain basement set up so I can hunt more muleys here in NV. Archery is too expensive and intensive and I don't like deer in velvet (like shooting an unripe banana) Muzzy>archery all day!!
@travisbennett9751
@travisbennett9751 2 жыл бұрын
“Archery is too expensive” How? Compared to muzzy? two of the muzzle loaders in this video, in their configuration, are well over 1k. The ArrowHead total setup is easily over 2K. Granted, over the two seasons (Archery & Muzzle loader) in the long run, the muzzle loader may end up being a cheaper investment. We do go through compound bows like underwear every year. A better sight, shaft, or broad head to get. So maybe muzzy is cheaper in the grand scheme of things. But if you wish to have maximum odds, you do all three archery, muzzle, and rifle.
@maximustheconfessor72
@maximustheconfessor72 2 жыл бұрын
@@travisbennett9751 Cuz if I went archery I'd want a decent set up and there's more add ons. Plus it takes an insane amount of practice in comparison. The main thing is I don't want to kill a deer in 95 degree heat in velvet. More chance of meat spoiling and velvet antlers are NOT my thing. September is a much more pleasant month to hunt than August.

The fact that he was using pellets was already a sign his gun wasn’t going to be consistent. When I hunt with pellets I weigh all my pellets and make sure they all weigh the same.

Well you was just saying that there wouldn’t be a difference if they all weighed the same. Problem is the pellets aren’t accurate weights. So from the start the pellets was going to be at a disadvantage. I shoot both and I can tell you by sorting out your pellets prior to shooting you’ll have a some what consistent spread. Now another thing they need to check is seating depth. That’s why I mark my ram rod. I’ve seen deviations in just that alone.

I think it's notable Ryan and Brady's groups were the tightest using the Blackhorn 209 powder. I switched to BH several seasons ago after finding it to be vastly more consistent over any of the pelleted powders and even loose Triple Seven and Pryodex. After making the switch to BH, my groups closed considerably, mostly like seen by Josh and Brady's groups seen in the challenge. I'd be curious to see what Josh's groups looked like if he was shooting BH.

I was thinking for myself , and maybe plinksters and for making it not overkill for small game but also able for large game was an muzzie somewhere in the neighborhood of .20-.30 caliber . I was leaning more towards. 25 calibers ( 25acp , 6.5 , and 25-06 ) or 7.62/30 cal but by looking at reloading supplies the .30 cal due to abundance of those rounds ; like 300 RUM , 30-30 , 30 carbine , 30 super etc etc . So an combustion chamber that can hold maybe 200g down to maybe 33g or smaller and for the igniter .22 blanks due to the .22 always seem to be in supply even during recessions vs , actually I can't even find the 209 primers , percusion caps , or 32 blanks . Although a rifle that can deliver 300 magnum power and still fire a small handgun bullet may be too broad , even though they definitely could make spacers to put in combustion chamber to keep powder bunched up for better chance of firing , but maybe something that has a power range between 7.62 handgun loads to 7.62x39 or 7.62x51-300 RUM . I think I would love the fact that I had a rifle that could deliver magnum power if I wanted it to but also be able to chamber a bullet small enough to take out small game without it being overkill . Did I also mention maybe an option for a 34" barrel for long range shooting if desired .
