Was there that night. SRV was back and better than ever. Got Jeff Beck on his knees. Thats how good SRV played. MSG energy strikes again. Thought of this night on the passing of Jeff Beck today. Great memory.

Saw them do this a week earlier at the Toronto show. I was sitting there thinking my ultimate show-ender would be JB coming out and doing Goin' Down with SRV and that's exactly what happened.

4-14-24 Watching this favorite jam when it struck me - can you just imagine what beautiful music SRV, Jeff Beck, Prince, George Harrison, Duane Allman, Steve Gaines - and recent arrivals Eddie Van Halen and Gary Rossington is washing the walls of the Golden City beyond the Pearly Gates? Hallelujah INDEED.

I agree Ben, Johnny Winter was a bad ass guitar genius. Jeff Beck is my favorite but Johnny is underated. This guy in his prime was almost untouchable.

Beck and SRV are totally different players......both are great in the tone department and tasteful fiery playing......I never heard a better Strat tone thatn SRV......but like another poster stated....Beck was an innovator back in the 60's and imo blew contemporaries off the map (Clapton & Page)....and Blow By Blow is a masterpiece

I was there, maybe not that night, but the night before or after. OK, watched it, not that night, I don't remember the chicks at the end. Thanks for posting this. It's amazing to me this video even exists. I was in the nose bleed section, center, so I didn't exactly see the show. Yes, I saw it, but you know. So I'm seeing it really for the first time. I was such a Stevie fan that at the time I wished Jeff wasn't on the stage with him. I was wrong, this is boss.

Appears to be a encore from what must have been a great SRV concert w/a walk on from Jeff doing his IMHO best song ever from his 72 Orange album. I was taking a state paid vacation at the time. It's too bad the quality isn't better, but from an audience grab what can you do.
@csi24488 жыл бұрын
Stevie and Beck were touring together at this time. They flip flopped who headlined. Stevie headlined this night. They would play this song as the last number each night. There's been way better quality versions of this on here before, seems like they don't stay up long though
@travisbickle83058 жыл бұрын
I've seen both separately, but never together. It's to bad that line up is impossible now. Peace.

I saw this tour at the Cow Palace and it may have been the best show ever for me. SRV and Beck are incredible, of course... but the other guy who blew me away is Terry Bozzio. I'd seen him play with Zappa, but he just tore the skins apart playing with Beck at these shows.

I saw these guys perform this song on tour at the Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts in September, '89. Jeff broke a string in the middle of his solo! They would share the headline every other night. One night Jeff would open, then next time Stevie would open. Stevie opened the night I saw them. Stevie had a dazzling show, then Jeff came out with no flashy show -- just his trio with white lights on the whole time. He wore a plain white t-shirt with a pack of cigs rolled up in his sleeve. Right after that tour, Stevie died in the crash.

Was at this show. Beck opened with his three piece band. Terry Bozzio on Drums. Forgot the Keyboard's players name. Hard to tell on this recording but Beck was going for this highly modulated freaked out sound in the solo as opposed to Stevies more hard core blues rock approach. It was incredible live. . Also at the end around 4:16 Beck thinks they are going to the ending and Vaughn's band turns the chorus one more time and then ends. Makes for a clunker. They closed the set with this.

This is a prime example to me when two great players get together you can see the difference Jeff Beck is great but SRV is one of the few extraordinary players maybe not technically perfect but his soul poured through the instrument
@onyxescence10 жыл бұрын
I prefer Beck by a long shot, he reminds me of Jimi Hendrix the way he has to move with his guitar.
@70goldtop10 жыл бұрын
Jeff has a better angle on every song.Stevie attacks every thing with ferocious blues scales.Beck did that 10 years prior.If people want to have a "who's better debate" you all caught Jeff Beck about 15 years too late.He's already in a different realm.Hendrix tribute "Manic Depression" was a track Beck conquer and Stevie…….well could never come close.Sorry fans.

HTF did you get the camera into the venue? My first camcorder, circa 1992 was VHS. I don't remember them making anything other than VHS until just recently, c. 1998. This looks like it was shot on a cell phone 15+ years before the technology was available. With a brick on the shoulder :)
