Going from Ableton to Octatrack

Sometimes I'll take a track I've been playing with in Ableton and bounce it into clips so I can play with it on the Octatrack. Here's a little video describing how I do that as well as what I do once it's on there.

I was losing a little love from my OT and was thinking of moving back to Ableton. This made me realise ai can have both sometimes. But all up I really like the idea of just making beats on Ableton.

A -> B always sounds awesome for performance. Everything else looks like a major ballache ruining my creative thought process. I need to plug in Eurorack wires to aid my sound design and just can’t cope with the button machining of Octo. Awesome video though and loving them so please keep them coming! Definitely remaining a long term subscriber. Love finding gems with low subs and know how much effort we put in from create these patch from scratch videos.

How do you rate the overall sound quality of the dac? Did you notice a difference from your stems in the daw and when you played it back on the octa?

i dont understand why people use the octatrack like this. it's so much more than just a daw for your stems. why not just stick to ableton if you're gonna use it like that? I can understand using it as a 4 track-tascam style looper for multitracking but its much more of a sound design tool/pattern sequencer/sample mangler/performance tool if it's the center of your hardware setup, it makes much more sense as a mixer and "clip launcher" because you're capturing quantized (or unquantized" bpm synced loops from all of the synths and drum machines that are coming into thru tracks live. and i also take certain things from ableton and sample them in, but this workflow is such a waste of the octatrack's capabilities. hopefully people who start using it this way will eventually learn how to transform their way of producing as they work with it more i feel like that messy desk guy really gave people the wrong impression of this machine. such a shame

look at his other videos and you will see that he is quite flexible with the octatrack. maybe not the funniest way to just feed some stems, but still worth to try imo ✌️

Sometimes when I'm making music, it can be fun to give a change of venue and sometimes the Octatrack is a fun venue for that. I don't think I'd get an Octatrack *just* for this purpose, but also I'm cool with people using their gear however they like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nothing wrong with using the Octatrack as a stems remixer. It's just one of the ways to use it. Not always necessary to mangle a sample to oblivion in the name of sound design. I like the Octatrack because it gives me a choice. Thanks for making this video and sharing your method
