Ok so it took me about 2 years to grow out my gray hair. Was battling negative remarks left and right. One woman at work gasped when she saw me. Someone else said “you were so attractive before”. Unfortunately one day I went home and colored it and was immediately sick to my stomach and depressed. I am starting all over again at 46. Bought some wigs and toppers to help hide the growth. IDGAF what people say this time around

I'll bet that the "gasping" woman is less than perfect. It always amazes me by the lack of couth imperfect people have! They somehow think that their opinions mean something positive. Remember one finger pointing out, leaves three pointing back, maybe mention that to her the next time she shares her invaluable opinion! Good for you to find your value.

Omg! People actually said that stuff? To your face? That’s CRAZY! I was totally white to my ears at a family barbecue last month. People looked at me a little weird, but only my drunk cousin made a stupid joke. I laughed. But maybe in NYC we’re more laid back? I’d break out in tears if a friend or stranger gave my hair a negative comment! I can understand why it would affect you. But it made you stronger!

I still have to adjust to grey hair, I am 49 years old, but now my hair is healthy and thick again. And that is also worth something. I love the grey, but I cant stand the people who are saying: you looked so much younger with brown hair :( Well I know, but that is not the reality anymore..... Grey it is. I finally realized gray hair wants to be left alone. I can go weeks w/out washing it. It's an adjustment of course. But once you quit the frequency & use grape seed oil & Shea butter...it's the softest BEST hair I've ever had. I used to just use baby shampoo but now I do use a purple shampoo as well.

You are so lucky she was honest. I had my virgin greying hair highlighted, I asked to be taken down only 2 levels instead she stripped it down to white and then toned it. My hair is like straw!! the problem is that white and grey hair is more delicate. She also did not listen to me. I am now growing the highlights out, one year out so far. Will take a good three years as my hair length is the same as yours. She did you a favor. Mine did me a disservice. You could do lowlights, meaning darker under would give a nice contrast and minimal damage.

I started going gray at 22, and the way it grew... like gray horns... so I colored it. After a lot of years it finally looked better. That's when I let it do its'own thing. Long or short did both and some inbetween. Had let it grow to see how long it would grow and it was down past my butt. Unfortunately, because of a health problem I had to cut it short. But I'm growing it out again and plan to continue to do so. It's now about 4" from my waist. There used to be a thing about older women not having long hair but I'm so glad to see more women my age just ignoring that. I'm in my 70's. I've been really enjoying seeing more young women letting their hair go gray if they want to. I also chuckle at the young women bleaching their hair to go gray. I just found your site and I think your hair looks beautiful!

❤️ I haven’t dyed or cut my hair since Feb 2020 - and so I’ve got sort of a grey/silver into previously dyed dark hair look going on. And my hair is LONG. Loved your video - identified with so much. Laughed so hard at your armpit comment - bc I say that all the time! Like, little discussed issue with long hair - getting it stuck in your armpit! I also feel what you said about wanting to still be able to have fun with your hair while still loving and embracing your natural grey. Would love an update on how the extensions were - I’d never thought about that as an option. I’m currently debating about when I finally cut off all the previously dyed hair and am just grey - doing like a peek a boo dye of dark underneath? Hmm. TBD. Also would love to hear if you got a big barrel curling iron and if you liked it! Love how your cut turned out - you’re gorgeous!

Im NOT a L'anve rep. Lol. But I use the L'ange Le Volume blowout dryer (a big hair dryer brush). If anyone gets it, I'd get the one w/2 interchangeable brushes, smaller & larger. . It dries hair really fast & makes my hair SO soft & frizz free. I also use the L'Ange Le Duo. It's a straightening iron that can curl also & has cool air vents on outside to set curl. My curls last for days. I also use a few of their styling products. Disliked a few also. I wish I'd found them at start of going grey. Curling/beachy waves feel like less of a demarcation line & mix around colors. I grew out fully 5 yrs ago then colored & TOTALLY regretted it. Now I'm 3/4 grown back out.

I grew up using a curling iron and agree it gives a too tight of waves. When I found the Revlon blow brush, it gives me body and waves without being too tight. I use a regular hair dryer to get the majority of moisture out of my hair. Then go in with the blow brush to style at the end. Highly recommend.

Was that the same stylist that gave you your cut where you took the last bit of color out of your hair (April 2019). I never use flat irons or curling irons on my hair to create curl. I only use Velcro rollers. I never want to accidentally use too much hear and create any yellowing I would be bummed and then want to cut out the yellow and I’ve been working hard on growing my hair out. Your cut looks nice. I also watch Nikol Johnson videos and she has helped me with this grey hair journey so much. Your cut looks great. 💕

My hair grows sooo slowly now, I get 1/2 trims every 6-9 months just to keep it waist length! And I go in, stand, she snips, & I’m outta there ASAP! I think it looks the same- still beautiful! I love this length on you. The longer hair looked good too. I don’t think you even need hair extensions, your hair is beautiful as is. You may want to try Velcro rollers. If used the right way you can easily get the bouncy waves at the bottom and the look like you just walked out of a salon. You have some great ideology about gray hair. I had brown hair your length now and 6 inches of gray growth and then decided to blend my whole head of hair. I was very nervous so my colorist is doing it in stages over several months. First she stripped the brown to a bleachy blond. I went back 3 weeks later and she toned down the blond to a more natural blond. Then in 5 weeks she is going to start blending more with hi-liting. Luckily, my fine hair did not break off. I have been using really great products to condition my hair. I was disappointed though, she cut about 5 inches off and now my hair is just hitting my shoulders. Can’t wait for it to grow long again. I’m very surprised your colorist doesn’t want to add color to your ends to blend. Your hair looks like it could handle it. But, either way, you hair looks great.
