I used too race when I was younger, I haven't had any birds for sum time and really miss the sport. My Uncle was in the U.S. signal corps stationed in England during WW2 he got me started with birds at a young age. He was in England for 4 years receiving messages from the French Underground. I miss my Uncle since he passed away but the memories of the good times we had with the birds will never fade away. I'm 65 years old now and retired and have been thinking about putting up a small loft and flying a few pairs just for the enjoyment of watching the birds fly. Thanks for the nice vid.

ill pick up the stragglers and give them safety. I like rehabbed, happy birds. I guess racing is fairly cruel. it is just a bird and life's meant to be exciting racing animals is a thrill. I wouldn't do it but can see the fun.

the grid coordinates of each coop is entered into a computer, along with the exact time of arrival of the pigeon at it's own individual coop. Then each individual pigeon's average speed is calculated mathematically, and the fastest speed is the race winner. See Wikipedia to read about it.

A good question. In old days, an owner may enter multiple racers (pigeons) to a race. The owner has a pigeon clock in which he enters the "driver" which uniquely identify the racer with a stamped time. The owner bring the clock to the organizer to prove the time of his racers. You can find vintage pigeon clock at eBay.

Great up north combine at Brussels hard to judge with weather conditions hard job to do specially when you have thousands of pigeons to look after g9od news at last blue skies showing through
@susanh16111 жыл бұрын
The Up North Combine didn't go to Brussels in 1999 - it wasn't one of their normal race points - the only time they went to Brussels around that time was 2001

i have three pairs. i am a hobbiest not a racing person. I watch racing homer vids all the time and never see any women. why dont the ladies in the family get involved? are there any you ever knew of? I am one. I love pigeons and am pretty much the local downtown feral bird re-habber and reference to local wildlife centres. i just know alot about htem, have a well stocked supply cupboard, and love to help them. It is beautiful when they all fly out of the truck at once. facinating, and their algorythems are beautiful as well. Viva las palomas

I wish I knew...............I was on the boat when the race finished, and I'm no expert. Perhaps you could email the Up North Combine? Don't forget, though - I made this video in 1999, things may have moved on since then. Stuart

Imagine if they did turkey racing, but gave them jetpacks and attached credit cards to them so that they're able to refuel at Shell garages.

you're so weak and you feel all so bad about yourself that you need to treat animal like they're your object ? They are as intelligent as humans, and obviously more kind, because they would never hurt people.

very cruel 'sport'
@wilsonblauheuer65449 жыл бұрын
Rachy Penguins no it isn't. if you mistreate pigeons, they will simply not return home. They race home because they feel safe and content there. Just like any other time humans have animals, there is going to be cruelty inflicted by cruel or ignorant individuals, but they are the exception, in my experience.
@Rachypenguins9 жыл бұрын
So it's alright to make them feel like their 'safe home' is over seas which they will probably drown in? Plus the losers have their necks snapped? wilson blauheuer

Very few people do the races over the ocean. Most people dont to it( not that there is anything wrong with it) peta just makes it look 100 times worst then it really is
