Not sure why all of you aren’t wearing masks. All those dust particles that we could see with our visible eyes is being breathed into your lungs. That can’t be too healthy. Certainly looks like a hard life to earn a buck. Thanks for sharing that with us … makes us appreciate the steps that go into harvesting tanzanite and what other precious stones are down in the mine.

its africa nobody care about masks.... they are happy get to eat and drink...

well tanzania and afria have their own currency so the buck is not of much use to them.

@@jeeess9979 It was a figure of speech! My point was about the dust they were breathing in and how it’s not good for your health, regardless of what part of the world you hail from.

Mining in USA, Canada and Australia for example workers have safety gear, good accommodation etc Look how the mine owner treat his own people. We don't care for own

When the fellow chipped out some rock .. using a rock .. I was thinking .. I bet he'd love a shiny new Estwing Rock Hammer !! But more importantly, I did see a couple slivers of Kyanite but I'm curious what the Yellowish mineral was ? And are they precursor minerals that help lead the miners to Tanzanite ?

I love gems and recently became interested in the tanzanite gem but had no idea how hard and DANGEROUS it is for these men. I now feel guilt with the few items i recently purchased. I don't want to remember the struggle these men go through to feed themselves and their families whenever i look at my jewelry. I hope this experience is not a representation of all the mine excavation approaches in Tanzania.

Because of people like you that buy their stones, the miners' standard of living and ability to provide for their families is much better than their alternatives. :) Those mining conditions would be like those of American mines maybe 80 years ago. But it would be unfair to hold our progress and current standards to them.

No western women curious about the mines or it looks 2000ft to get those precious stones??😅 Guess they're just consumers of the polished end product 😂

Thats because they couldn't give a damn about the suffering and the misery it took to pull it out only about the cost it's possible future value and the beauty ...they are westerners full stop!
