I'm putting this here as a disclaimer: For those that are unaware, the submarine meme that has been represented in this video is based of a tragedy that has happened a few days ago. As much as we agree that this is a tragedy and that our hearts go to the ones that have lost their friends, family members and/or close ones in the tragedy, the meme does not have the intention of making fun of them but it shows the lack of attention to the design, tools and materials used for the making of the "submarine". This points out the fact that the submarine did not follow proper testing nor proper precautions to ensure the safety of it's occupants and shows that there needs to be some proper procedures that need to be made to ensure that such events no longer happen in the future and to ensure that extreme environments, such as the ocean in this case, are set to be know as areas that are not to be taken as safe areas. Our hearts go out to those that have lost their loved ones in the tragedy and hope that the governments around the world ensure that this type of tragedy no longer happens in the future with set inspections and proper procedures.

I know it's a meme about the sub and not the 5 death. Still, the impact on those knowing them is the same. They just started their mourning and someone is making view/money out of it... The point most people hate about this is the timing for the thumbnail and the meme. He could have waited a bit for posting it. You can even see in the video that other streamer aren't laughing out loud, some of them look uncomfortable. Darren, instead of pinning your comment should have said something seeing the amount of bad comment.

I can see why people might see this one as a little too soon, but I'd argue Darren isn't making light of the passengers' deaths so much as poking fun at the submersible's faulty design. There was a tech issue that resulted in a catastrophic "game over" That aspect of this disaster has definitely earned some mockery

To be fair, the controller was almost certainly not the issue, it was the composite hull material. I saw a lot of people mocking the choice to use a controller to control the sub, but gaming controllers are pretty frequently used for non-gaming purposes because they're cheap, comfortable, and have extensive consumer QA testing. It's very unlikely that the sub imploded because of the controller causing a crash, but because the composite hull already suffered wear and tear from the pressures it was subjected to on previous dives and it hit the breaking point on this one. It was terribly designed, but not for the reason that the avatar highlights.

Tbf they knew the risks. The “kid” was 19, they were a full fledged adult and knew what they were getting into.
