The powers are so open-ended in this game, I'd genuinely be surprised if ANYONE knew how to do puzzles the "intended" way. There appear to have been some straightforward ones, but a hell of a lot more where I'm sure I overthought it or straight up cheated. Also, canonically, BotW Link did all the shrines, got the Master Sword, built Tarrey Town, defeated all the Divine Beasts, and slayed Ganon... all without finding a single Korok seed, because Hestu doesn't recognize him, but other NPCs Link helped do.

The best part about BOTW and TOTK are that you can mess around and end up where you absolutely shouldn’t be.

As much as other games boast about the world and the story adapting to whatever madness you get up to, these games do it perfectly. The story is coherent no matter what order you approach it, I reached the top of one of the temples without the matching power, without doing the questline or even setting foot in the region itself. Made my way via sky islands, reached the actual dungeon, picked up mounds of quality gear on the way up and dropped a travel point. It was definitely tough, I was in no way equipped for the challenges on the way but some wacky solutions (ie absolute madness) made it work. Then when I actually started the quest, I warped right to the front door and it picked up as if nothing happened. It's not making a beeline to the final boss arena, but lesser games would have made the area completely locked off with invisible walls or just teleporting you away if you tried to break their carefully planned sequence.

​@@helplmchoking simply because, the concept of "levelling" is non-existent in Zelda games, the only thing that could help you move forward no matter where you end up are better "gearing" and your own skills. Games with "levelling" locks off areas appropriate to the player's level to justify the unfairness of later enemy stats which could only be overcome by the player's stat grind. Also, not many games are actually as open-world as BOTW/TOTK. Few tried but they're pale imitations.

From most of The Legend of Zelda games I have seen RT play, it makes so much sense that Zelda is a sage of time, existing in all possible futures and pasts; If you look at any game, a form of her will always reappear to help link in some way and seen what he has always done hence her trust in him

Hot tip for those of us afraid of stubbing our toe. If you get the full glider armor set then upgrade it 2 times then it will make you immune to fall damage while wearing it.

Dan - starts the game - goes to Hyrule castle almost immediately, certainly way too early - starts fighting the final boss - leaves because he has no arrows - then defeats the weaker version of that boss first try - has never played the game because it's new - has only died from stubbing his toe so far Absolute god damn mad lad, that's why he's the Drift King

Edit: this thread gets real spoiler heavy, maybe don't open it if you're only starting I'm still not sure if I prefer TotK to BotW, I think I prefer the more chilled out, gentle exploring of emptier landscapes but I ADORE how much more TotK rewards absolutely batshit solutions to things. Traversing sky islands that are clearly intended for the endgame is possible with some really janky aircraft, you can reach major story areas without doing any of their quests if you're willing to experiment and while the general combat feels much more punishing than BotW, you can definitely get through fights you have no business starting with some careful planning. Fucking masterpiece

i've only beaten 2/4 regional phenomina (dont spoil please havent even watched the video yet!!) but i've already done shit like 'make a ton of platforms and connect them to skip shrines'. i beat colgera with 7 hearts, no upgraded armour and like 30 arrows. i beat the gerudo boss guy with no upgraded armour and 12 hearts. liberated lurelin with those sages powers and just sniping the king bokoblin until he dies. if you know what you're doing in this game you can gaslight gatekeep girlboss through anything i dont like how almost every weapon is decayed tho that pisses me off i HATE shit breaking 24/7

@@CinqAssocSouthSect5DonQuixote yeah I never minded weapon degradation in BotW, I think it gave you a good reason to explore dangerous areas and you can stock up on more high level gear than you could ever need either at Hyrule Castle or by fighting hinox In TotK I feel like I'm constantly breaking weapons and they all look super fuckin dumb with big lumpy horns glued to shit. But the game more than makes up for that with the other crazy stuff you can do. I just miss the champion abilities, revalis gale was basically a must have for me and it's tough to not have it

I feel like totk still has plenty of that kind of exploration in the sky and a far more intense version of it in the depths. Also its fairly easy to make cool looking weapons if you pick what you attach carefully

@@helplmchoking pro tip construct horns arent bad and always look cool. im fine with goofy looking weapons for the gibdo bone +40 damage x2 with gerudo claymores too i remember going to hyrule castle for the quest and then i heard 'the upheaval rusted every weapon' and i was so pissed off

i think undecayed weapons are in the depths but like FUCK the depths + i've only found undecayed travellers gear there...zonai weapons and bows in general really put in the mfing work (i swear its so easy to run out of arrows in this game)

Something I did in my fight with colgera that I haven't seen anyone else do: when he shoots spikes at you and reveals the top side of his icy spot, you can actually dive right through it, no arrows needed.

I am currently struggling with Queen Gibdo, I hate her and I wish she'd just go away honestly

kicked her ass today: have a lot of arrows and gibdo bones. strike her with the lightning, then aim at her with gibdo bones attached, because they're +40 to damage. rinse and repeat until phase 2 phase 2 requires a lot of healing if you have bad defenses but take down a hive, kill gibdos paralysed, repeat until they're all gone, then do the first thing against the queen until you win. i did it with 12 hearts and 15 defense, so you can too :D

With the dragon above Rito, you dont need any arrows or bombs, just wait until he's below and use "R - dive" to dive through his weak points :)
