I don't like clowning people in they videos by being like "Oh I was better when I was a kid" but even as a kid I figured out just slash parallel to either the tip or butt of they sword. Blocking is just a matter of having your sword in really any opposite direction, they give you huge margin for error. If you just look at them and swing the right direction you can do most stages without even needing to block once.
