I used to be a big Salvation Army thrift Store shopper and donating items UNTIL I lost my home in a tragedy and having no family and not wanting to couch surf at friends i went to the local salvation Army Men's Shelter. The beds were supposed to be free but instead the 'Disciple's', (the recovering drug addicts and alcoholics who work for free) there told me literally I had to pay $65.00 a week to sleep there so I had to. The next day, or two a black gentleman who was over the Disciplies and was a paid salary Salvation Army employee walked up to me and said, "I heard your sleeping here for free and I DON'T like that!!" I responded, "That's funny because I have the receipt where I paid to sleep here". He became even more angry and replied, "I'll see about that and if you're lying, you're out on the streets!" turned and walked a few steps away then turned around saying "White boy!" and walked away. Needless to say, i rightfully will NEVER buy anything from Salvation Army ever again much less donate a single penny to the organization as well.

Come out to the Willowbrook area... Two family thrift, one Goodwill, one Desseret thrift store all in one area. And just a few miles down 1960 is Texas thrift. Might make a good trip!

There's plenty of the charity places that have decent stuff. I just go to the bins on Reno. I see the same people there all the time, but that's primarily where I find most of the stuff I get. They can be heavily picked over if you're looking for t-shirts, but I've found a ton of vintage stuff there that people just either didn't know what it was, or passed it over.

I like my vintage pieces to be worn and torn. I think a vintage shirt should look it’s age. I could find two of the same shirts one dead stock and one completely beat down and I’d pick the beat down one with all the Urban outfitter fake vintage and hot topic shirts I want mine to look it’s age. Your basic person would see a band shirt and think it’s a hot topic piece and.not an original piece. I’m weird like that.
