Visiting my dads village for the first time in many years was an incredible experience! Myself, husband and kids went with my cousins, aunties and uncles to visit my family village where my dad was born and my grandparents are from.
Apologies for the terrible filming I was holding my daughter and also trying to take in the moment rather than focusing on filming which is why I haven't realised it till now. Many people asked to see this video though which is why I have finally put it out months after filming.

I got emotional! I studied at KNUST in 1982 and spent so much time in villages surrounding Kumasi doing research on traditional adinkra symbols. The Ashanti have an incredible respect for the traditions. There is love and honor for the spoken word. People find their strength in their families and their ancestors. This was a beautiful video. 🙏🏼❤️

So sacrosanct is the African tradition of libation, of reconnecting with long gone ancestors so important that is performed in most regions of Africa. This was such an elaborate welcoming ceremony yet simple. Very nice to see.

Hi Vanessa. I live in Canada. After watching your previous video where you were interviewing your dad, I had to show that video to my dad after hearing him mentioned where he was born. My dad immediately was able to tell which family your from and so on after listening to your dad. And to see this video now am even more happy because even though I didn’t live in that village i always visited anytime I travelled to Ghana and I was able to remember some faces from the video especially the man who did the introduction and received the items. Anyways my mom’s family also live in one side of the road and my dad’s family live on the other side as well. My father (dad’s brother Nana Asante) is the current chief of the village and my grandmothers names are Nana Yaa Ampofowaa. (Mum’s mother) and Nana Baabo (dad’s mum) who just passed. Mention these names to your dad and am sure he may know my family. Forgive me am just too excited seeing my hometown on KZbin. Cheers
