Every country has its own story, and within that story are several key people, key dates, key events that ultimately shaped its destiny. Well, for China, September 18th, 1931 was certainly one of those days. In fact, the current state of affairs, and the deep-rooted anger that still exists within the majority of Chinese people can be traced to that very date. Sure, there were things going on before and the worst of the events happened years after that date, but the events that transpired on that day are what set the trajectory for things that were to come. What has been come to know by most in the Western world as 'The Mukden Incident' took place when Japanese soldiers who were in northeastern China staged an attack on the South Manchuria Railway in Shenyang City (called Mukden, or Shengjing at the time) and blamed it on the Chinese. They used this as a pretense for their invasion into China to take full control of Manchuria. They occupied the area until 1945, when the Second World War ended. The events that took place in China during those years - the atrocities and bloodshed - are some of the worst in recorded human history and will never be forgotten, especially by the Chinese.
In this video, I go on a journey to find the place where this initial spark took place - whether you refer to it as 九一八事变, 沈阳事变, The September 18 Incident, 満州事変, or as most of us know it 'The Mukden Incident' - the unfortunate series of events that unfolded there were the same. So come with me as we once again trudge down the blood-stained trails of history, talk about what WAS then, and what IS now.
If you'd like to watch my video where I explore the former capital (Xinjing) of Japan's short-lived puppet state in northeastern China, which was called Manchukuo, you can find it here: • Exploring the remains ...

Thanks! Excellent video! I would love to see you do one about the Nanking (Nanjing) massacre. Apparently it's still a very emotional subject to discuss. My wife simply doesn't like to talk about. She was raised about 45 minutes from there on the Yangtze River.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EXTRA SUPPORT! Truly appreciated! I have been to the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall a couple of times, but that was a LONG time ago. I would be willing to cover it... BUT, I bet YT would age restrict it simply based on the language and graphic details that I'd have to use just to do the topic justice. If I do it, I'll wait until I start memberships, or until I have a lot more Patreons and then perhaps I'll do it for top supporters, otherwise if I just do it here as a normal vid, it will get age-restricted and demonetized. But I definitely will have more history-related pieces coming at various points on this channel! There's an unlimited amount of interesting topics! 🙏🤝

@@chopsticksandtrains sounds great. I totally understand about not doing that on YT at this time. Keep doing what you're doing because I'm learning a lot. My wife and I are about a year out from going to her hometown. I've got my work cut out trying to learn Mandarin and understanding Chinese culture. But you're a channel is helping me out a lot!

Thank you very much for your excellent historic video when most people in the West and Japan will not know about this event or will conveniently forget about 18 September. Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget-lest we forget!'

Thanks for your video ! I am Chinese who have lived in Europe and North America for a long time. Your video is very fair, explaining and discussing the real history . According to my experience, very few Westerners have concept about the China-Japan war in Ww2 or recent history. And I saw even in the comments below, someone mentions 9.18 is just one of those “sensitive date”, and 9.18 or nanjing massacre are similar to other “sensitive date “, such viewpoint is quite often concluded by western people when we discussed. But actually whatever from nature or concepts , those “sensitive date “ are very different. And I think such “comments” exactly make some Chinese become angry and “anti-west”, although I know the huge differences between Japan and real western countries. I think for this area ,Russia is very smart, they very often advertise their contribution to fight against Japanese in ww2 to help Chinese , such as “ August storm” activities . However, before American join the war with Japan, Chinese people and army were desperate to face Japanese army , and America totally changed this situation. If I was US officials , I will ask media frequently report to Chinese people the great contribution American made in ww2 to help Chinese fight against Japanese 😂,it will be more efficient than now. The reason I guess US officials didn’t do that is probably worry it will influence current US -Japan relationship. And by the way , I think lots of viewpoints of Chinese towards foreign countries(especially Western countries)are based on the history between 19 century-1945. I think you have very deep understanding towards China , so you probably can feel that Chinese have a quite positive attitude towards Germany compared with other countries? I mean except the good quality of made in Germany , it is related to history. Perhaps you know the nazi Germany have give military aid to China to help Chinese against Japan? And the German guy protect Chinese people from nanjing massacre. Actually there are almost no one know this Germany-China history in current western countries, even German don’t know about it,but lots of Chinese know that. It is a very interesting thing. However anyway,I actually still have a negative attitude towards Japan, but people is people, when I met Japanese overseas, I get along with them case by case, there are both good and bad people. And for western countries, I value some great western or American cultures and values, also the some advanced system(although I have fought with those people who are racism to me lots of time 😂), I also think currently some Chinese impression towards western countries especially American is definitely not true.I believe my viewpoint towards those topic are quite fair, but it is hard to find unbiased viewpoint whatever in China or in western countries. Because only if someone have actually lived in a country , get along with local people, and try to give comments without any pre-existing impression or stereotypes will be fair.

EVERY war in the past has been and in the future will be fought about RESOURCES or religion. In the past it was about food, water, oil, coal, in the future it will be about energy sources in general, chips/AI or again about food and water.

Exactly how many such “sensitive dates” are there in China? Seems like in a few more years, there’s only going to be 3 days on the calendar left to be happy on!
