Stumbled across your channel planning our summer hiking trips 😁, great shots of the northshore! Haven’t hiked my states highest point as of yet. Hopefully we can still get there this summer 🤞🏼. Great information and nice channel sir👍🏼!

Wow! Imagine my surprise to find this video of your trip to Eagle Mountain when I JUST got back home from this very high point?! You’re right...the mosquitos were a massive pain in the summer ...even with bug spray and it IS similar, but comes in second place to Virginia out of the 15 I’ve now done. We car-camped at the trailhead and were the first people to summit July 5th after getting started at 5:40am (it was already daylight!). I went up July 5th with an individual I met on Mt Arvon on July 4th. He was also shooting video that will hopefully be a KZbin series someday. After discovering we had the same basic route planned, we caravanned to other states together (MN, IA and IL) and each of us knocked out WI separately this week. I also continued on alone to hit Indiana on my way back to Ohio. Next week will be my big trip to all the Northeastern states. That will put me at 28 high points since I began on April 3rd this year (4 months ago). My goal is to pick up Missouri , Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi to be at 32 states by end of September. That would be every HP from Iowa to the East. 😀👍🏼 Then I can enjoy some of the better/challenging HPs out West. Glad to see another video from you and am looking forward to more! Keep up the good work! Take care! 😀👍🏼

David Kleen no kidding! I obviously recorded this quite a while ago so what are the chances that I would schedule the upload for that exact day ahahah.. also, wow! you’re making great time, that’s incredible. best of luck on that trip! and also, I’m glad to hear I did eagle mountain at a good time, lol.

Out of those you have listed to do by September, I've been to one of those: Missouri. It is beautiful out there w/ amazing views, but unfortunately, there's not so many lookouts to take pictures at. The views I would have taken pictures at are these HUGE dropoffs on the side of the road. Also, if you have time (and some swimming shorts) it would be a nice hike to do the Mina Sauk hike from the highpoint. Warning, there is a bit of route finding for it and it should be done mid-morning at the latest to avoid getting out there after dark.

Wow, no kidding! that's a massive one to cross off the list. How long have you guys been at it?

@@grtshw Just since 2016 but between flight school and college, its nearly impossible to get trips in besides one or two months during the summer lol. The plan is to have everything complete by 2023 and then i'll start going for the 7 summits.

I did that same hike in July of 2020 and it started raining as well. The wood planks over the swampy area seem to have been greatly improved since your hike. There were more of them and seem to be higher above the water level as well. This mosquitoes were a bit of a nuisance. I made 3 big mistakes on this hike, I did the hike without eating a breakfast, I forgot to use my insect repellent before starting and did not wear rain gear so I got soaked to the bone. Next time I will try to plan my trip a little better.

Sounds like our suspicion about the mosquitos being difficult in the summer was right. Honestly, I really do think going in May before all of the snow was gone was a good mosquito deterrent. Also, for what it's worth, we were quite unprepared too. No mosquito issue, but we purchased our gloves and rain ponchos at a wal-mart that morning because we didn't realize it would rain. I guess sometimes you just have to adapt?

I tried getting to this HP earlier this week, but I had other things I wanted to do that kept me from it. I did get to the trailhead, but looked how long it would take to get to the next spot and decided there not to.

The Pretzel2 ahh no kidding, two commenters on this video were both there this week haha. well, best of luck when it comes to making it back around to it!

@@grtshw Thanks man. Also, would you consider meeting up at one of the high points? If yes, it would have to be planned out a month or 2 in advance as I would need that long to save up time and money to do it.

How can you do this hike without including any shots of the overlook? Shameful.
@grtshw3 жыл бұрын
There was no overlook when we were there! Less than 5 ft of visibility in the fog when we were at that part of the hike sadly. I’ve seen photos though and it’s supposed to be great. Would definitely love to see it someday.
