Have you ever wondered what lies underneath the underground? Take a look at some history and see what awaits.
For the first time in its history, London Underground has opened its doors to record the day-to-day life of its 16,500 staff who work across a network of 275 stations and 507 trains running on over 300 miles of track. Every year more than one billion people use The Tube that's 3 million journeys a day; commuters, holiday-makers, day-trippers, businessmen and women, students, overseas visitors.
This series goes behind the scenes to tell the story of some of the dedicated and colourful characters who work for LU, doing a difficult job under often challenging and stressful circumstances.

glad they actually care about preserving the older building style/materials in modern times, instead of ripping it all out and replacing it with a 'modern' look. new stations sure, but dont erase history. refurbish old works and bring them back to life, as they are doing. love it. crazy the same factory that made the tile 100 years ago is still around to make that same tile again by hand

It's time for it. The first season was 2002, 2nd seson was 2004, this (3rd) season was filmed in 2007 (Except for the "Under Attack" episodes), then there was "The Tube (2012)" on BBC and then "The Tube: Going Underground" in 2017. I think it's time for a new one, if they want to keep it as a one season once every 5 or so years.

I'm sure they still had that 1938 stock going when I was young in the 70s& 80s. I seem to remember they still had a Guard working the doors and they used to place a metal bar across the carriage to stop passengers alighting from the door they were at. I think I used to get on them at King's cross! They were a very rough ride but the seats were v.comfy !

I remember the old stock running on the Central Line when I was a child in the 1950's. The lighting inside the trains was a bit dim with regular light bulbs inside light shades as I remember! They were all red in colour on the outside. Yes, I also remember the guard who opened and closed the doors. When they were replaced I was amazed at the new fluorescent lighting as a child!

A very interesting and informative film, however, once again I am not surprised that it takes so long to refurbish a station, and not even a major job, more of a facelift, but starting at 1am and finishing again at 5am, not just finishing but cleared up and of site with every bit of equipment, so basically, as long as they get onto site on time, they get a maximum of 2 hours work done, because it must take at least an hour to set up and another to clear up and vacate. Why don’t they stagger the work, when possible, e.g close part of the platform and re-tile it, then move on to the next section, and so on, for the things that need the line to be closed could be done earlier at night, close the station early by making the last train earlier, and replacing it with buses so the workers can get far more done in one go, and probably cost less as well, I am damn sure I wouldn’t work for a company if I could only get paid for 4 hours per shift, so I expect the workers get paid for a full 8 hours, at TFLs cost, and ultimately the passengers who face large ticket price increase to cover the extra labour costs. Also, why take everything back out every night, break the scaffold down into single pieces and store it on the platform, along with anything else that doesn’t cause a safety hazard, or is easily half inched, in a cordoned of area. Seems logical to me, but I am sure some underground operations buff will put me right. To me it’s just atypical of British organisational competence, or lack there off, sorry but it’s true, just look at the gridlock on British roads on bank holidays, road works everywhere, and deliberately done at the time, why?? Answer, no f...ing idea, and winter weather, 1/2 inch of snow and the country grinds to a halt, why??, Answer, incompetent planning and organisation of snow/ice clearing equipment, not to mention the idiots stuck in their vehicles just because they ignore weather warnings, thus ensuring that emergency services are put under more strain than necessary and snow clearing/gritting equipment can’t operate properly, that is of course if and when it’s deployed, and to think that the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 once ruled over a vast empire, and now we can’t even paint an underground station without cocking it up, geese.

Church House Lighting I believe. Pendant style, individual lamp units, often in ornate, lantern-esque housings. They look nice, but don't give as good a light as fluorescent tube lighting, which most underground stations (and by extension most commercial buildings) have.
