Goku Black Sucks. There, I said it. This evil Goku doubleganger started out so great but then dove into a heaping pile of garbage as the saga progressed. In this video I'll explain why I believe Goku Black could have been one of the greatest villains in Dragon Ball, but was nothing more than a cluster of terribly executed concepts.

I wholeheartedly agree. I thought we would get an actual evil goku. Ironically enough I thought it would be the very goku you created!!! Growing up I watched your evil goku vs goku series which is exceptional and fantastic!!! He was as strong as our mainline goku!!! Whose main motivation was getting stronger and besting his good natured counter part. Which I truly loved!!! But instead we got some wannabe be Kai in training who wanted to kill everyone because Trunks went back in time and Goku and Vegeta gained god ki which wouldn’t have happened if Beerus woke up let’s say a few centuries later. Therefore never meeting Goku or Vegeta.

My problem with Goku Black is Zamasu. If Black wasn't Zamasu I would have no problems with him, we would just need some kind of reorg of his character and who he is. I actually liked the Rose transformation, but I think that's because I was blinded by the flashy recolor Red always mentions XD

I'm not gonna lie: I was brought in with the return of Future Trunks because I was so tired of the kid version. I lost interest when they were giving the poor backstory for Zamasu to then become Goku black. The straw that broke the camel's back was when he went Rose and got the lighter voice rather than something truly menacing. Honestly felt like he was inviting me for tea. Probably a little bias but I did like your version of Goku Black because he wanted power and suddenly became fascinated by how Goku worked and just now cared about killing for his proof that he IS the strongest and in a way now believes he is Goku.

I honestly liked him and liked the Zamasu reveal, I think he could have been a great villain, if his reason for his Zero Mortals Plan motivation were explained more, flexed out and given more explanation for stuff like why he didn't just use the Super Dragon Balls to destroy mortals and they didn't have him team with future Zamasu. Zamasu held him back.

The ZMP was flushed out so much though, it wasn't needed. I think Zamasu as a corrupted evil Kai would have been great as a standalone saga that has no relation to an evil Goku variant whatso ever.

It shouldn't have stemmed from him just being beaten by Goku or seeing beasts fight, the writers should have had him travel throughout the universe, and maybe coincidentally see multiple examples of mortals being repugnant like seeing them slaughter each other, seeing dictators, and the worst of the worst, to me, it would felt more valid if he had much more valid reasons for his plan. I honestly think he would made for a great antagonist. I also liked Rosé since the form was unique to Goku Black but I very much understand why people wouldn't like it. I mean. . . It's literally just Super Saiyan Blue but pink.

Zamasu and Black were interesting ideas that were unfortunately brought down by each other. An ending where Zamasu turns on Black for being a mortal after splitting only for Black to escape and become a Reverse Flash type character would have been way more interesting and left the series with an overarching threat

Honestly I actually liked the idea of Zamasu. It was a refreshing change of pace and the idea that the Kais are not immune from doing evil deeds even if Zamasu viewed his actions as just and noble. He believed so strongly in his cause that even when his physical body was destroyed he decided to become an abstract concept and become the the universe. The problem that comes in is the retcon of the potara earrings and how the episode ended in probably the worst way possible for Trunks and Mai. Having to live in a timeline where there's already a Trunks and Mai and live the rest of their lives knowing the they FAILED to protect those they cared about. Sure they still exist in this new timeline but they're not the same people much like how Gohan is not the same as Future Gohan. They had different experiences and are different people as a result.

And this is why, the BEST Goku Black is the one introduced in dragon ball heroes; because while he still is a Zamasu wearing a Goku costume, literally NO ONE brings that up, and without any second Zamasu around, he truly can shine alone, for how much he can. PLUS, he has ssj rosé equivalents of the ssj2 and ssj3, with added buffed ssj3 form, and all of them are better things than whatever happened in dragon ball super after Merged Zamasu came by.

I mean, if they wanted to tie him to Zamasu, all they had to say was Zamasu used the Super Dragon Balls to wish for a God of Destruction that would match Goku in potential and prowess and thus we get Goku Black. And evil version of Goku with God ki. Done. THat would explain why he refers to Trunks as "saiyan" despite being an evil Goku. Currently, it's pretty obvious that he himself wasn't Saiyan because of that reason.

Btw, I just want to say that, in my opinion, Cell Max did have a reason to exist. Red Ribbon viewed Cell to be such a success and the absolute best Android they had ever had that was on their side. When Magenta found out that Dr. Hedo was possibly even smarter and better than Gero, his grandfather, he wanted Hedo to create a better version of Cell. The color pallet could also be explained by Magenta wanting everyone to know who exactly built this thing by having its main color be a bright red. He just fits with the narrative that the movie had, IMO.

The thing though is Turles already is what this describes, that evil what if Goku was the ruthless Saiyan intended. He is already the opposite. He is prideful, powerful, and similar to Goku he stacks on power ups, but through draining planets of life energy to add to his own unlike Goku who borrows it to save it. There wouldn't be a way to make Goku as is in Z an evil counterpart any different than that, because Goku's personality isnt complex enough for him to have any self-reflection on who he is beyond what he already did when he turned Super Saiyan. Goku in character wouldnt see an evil Goku as a caution about himself. He would just see him as another character who looks like him to challenge and might assume the challenge would inspire him, the same way it did when he fought Vegeta. I feel like the way people wanted an evil Goku for an arc doesn't fit his character. And just making a Majin Goku, wouldn't really be Goku either and too strong to stop at that point in DBS. However if the evil Goku was the one conflicted fighting a good and powerful version od himself and struggling, then maybe, but that would also just mirror Vegeta's development, doing essentially that.

They should've been a separate character. Zamasu should be a noob god candidate who cheats his way to power. Goku Black should have been like Fern from Adventure Time a variant of Goku who was victimized by the shenanigans of Zamasu and Trunks fight, then the demon corrupted him by offering him a chance to live again with his loved ones by replacing Main Goku. Moro should have stayed a Warlock. Dragon Ball had enough hitters.

My problem with Goku Black isn't Zamasu, my problem is that He and Zamasu's relationship wasn't really as fleshed out as it should've been. I feel like instead of simply making the two the same blanket character, there could've been a duality-dynamic between the two. For example: Zamasu could've been at a point where he was sort of reluctant with the zero-mortals plan, he isn't at that stage where he's HELLBENT on destroying every mortal, but his goals of purifying the universe is still lingering in the back of his head. When Goku Black enters his life, he's given an opportunity TO start his plan, and with Gowasu dead he agrees to it but is still not fully onboard with it. Goku Black on the other hand, is a version of Zamasu who's already decided that enough is enough. If he wants shit to get done throughout the universe, he needs to do it himself, and he's gonna need the power to pull it off. The quick solution he gets is that he takes the body of the strongest known mortal U7, Son Goku, and uses it as a means of achieving his goals in a fast and efficient way. The duality part comes in the fact that these are two Zamasu's in different stages of his life, one that's not all there with wiping out all mortals, and one that is. Maybe Goku Black already wiped out all mortals in his timeline, and came to Zamasu's timeline to do the same to his. Maybe at some point, Zamasu see's Goku Black's sadistic nature as an entirely different beast outside of him AND Goku. There's a lot of avenue's the writer's could've taken with these character's, but a lot of it was just left on the ground floor.

It's not just duality between Goku Black and Zamasu, but if the story stayed in the main-timeline, you could've also had that duality between Son Goku and Zamasu! I.E. Goku Black (Future Zamasu), who comes from his timeline to start the Zero Mortal's Plan fresh in another dimension, encounters the Present Zamasu who he "helps" by killing Gowasu. He gives Zamasu the idea of switching bodies with Son Goku, and once he does joining him with his crusade of disposing all mortals across all universes. Goku Black then leaves to wipe out the mortals on his own while Present Zamasu goes off to start his side of the plan. He switches bodies with Son Goku, and from there it could be a mystery of what could've caused this change on the Z-Fighters side of things while slowly building up to a confrontation between Present Zamasu and Goku in a fight to reclaim his original body. It doesn't even have to be combative fight, Goku could call out Zamasu in his ideals, challenging the God who himself is conflicted with the entire plan as he isn't as driven as his future counterpart is. Bringing more depth to the two characters as their connections grow stronger the more they interact with one another. Eventually leading to a point where Goku Black has to step in to bring current Zamasu on the "right track". These are all concepts I WISH could've been explored in this arc now that your video got me to think about it.

That's kind of a loaded question. Back in the day when I was younger, what the fuck did I know. I made a simple recolor and was done with it. That unintentionally is what caused Evil Goku to become so popular- was the simple recolor of it and the fact he was evil. So as time would go on, I would try to not so much focus on his recolor even though that is his design, but try to focus on his character and telling a good story. But just because you CAN change the color of something, does that mean SHOULD you change the color of it. It would have been one thing if Super did one or two recolors and was done with it, but literally every new form now is a recolor. God, Blue, UI, MUI, Rose, UE, Gohan White, Orange Piccolo, Golden F, Black F, Red CellMax etc... It's the eye catch of what Super and Dragon Ball has become, and they MUST crank out these forms every saga or chapter or else it doesn't hook. I could keep going with this answer but I don't have time.

Honestly, I like Goku Black, but after the reveal that he was zamasu, I liked him a whole lot less, he had so much potential, he doesn't feel like zamasu at all. But no the writing saves the day and turns any good concept, into a poorly executed one. He deserved so much more, and I hope someday we will get a reboot of him, with better writing for his character.

I love Goku Black, especially when he transforms into Rosé. The only things I've always hated about the arc is the "Goku Black is actually Zamasu" twist and the fused Zamasu shit. The arc could've been great if Toei made it so that instead of the bs, it was just another goku that got approached by Zamasu as he was the only mortal that earned his respect, for the simple fact that they both hate mortals. That's just me though.

basically, he wants a Turles that re-explores the narrative of the Saiyan-Namek saga. He's already seen what he could have become through Raditz, Vegeta, and all the noncannon Saiyan stories but because it's not specifically Goku it doesn't scratch his fanfic boner. Zamasu is much more narratively interesting, unique, and on point relating to the roles and perceptions of the gods. I do agree that the execution was terrible.

Personally, I think an evil goku is stupid, but if you absolutely needed to do this with the time travel nonsense, couldn't we have this be done in a cool timeline like "what if god ki didn't exist?" and that timeline would be like the gt timeline where goku and vegeta achieve ssj4 or an homage to it and we see everyone all grown up, we get see uub, pan, bulla, goten, and trunks all grown up and the "Evil goku" is "kakarot" drawn out by some evil god exploiting the primal side of his being. His primal saiyan instincts that he lost were exposed when he accessed ssj4 and it was extracted out of him like piccolo to kami but this evil god zamasu. and it's GT Goten and Trunks that come back in time asking for help. There now we got a new time travel plot, a homage to future trunks and it would make sense that the past would be a different timeline because bulma isn't like future trunks's bulma and may have made a miscalculation and they happen to land in our time. Boom just like that, we don't future trunks and he can stay happy, we got evil goku without any of the possession nonsense and the enemy originates from that timeline, which also means we rework Zamasu. Because I hate Zamasu, in this new version he could be angry at the god's limitations when dealing with mortals with beerus and champa as prime examples of 2 lazy fucks who aren't doing their job and took matters into his own hands by destroying everyone who will not convert to his line of thinking of making his own universe with perfected beings and Goku Black is his first follower. So here's what we got, we gott SSJ4s fight with SSJBs, adult versions of liked characters and villains with understandable motives. I think this works WAYYYYYY better than what we got, and this story is working within super's frame.

The reason for goku black was in the future trunks timeline is because there is no one who can really stand up to goku black except trunks and a goku who never hit his head vs frieza is no question would never had happened cause goku wouldn't be as strong as he is when he hit his head if goku faced frieza on earth since goku was sent to destroy humanity in the first place which he is strong enough to do but he would have no training or real battle experience and frieza would easily ko goku and goku would have no allias since planet vegeta was destroyed so if he was the real goku he wouldn't last long compared to the good goku since the good goku actually did train cause remember goku was sent to earth as a baby regardless of what you change frieza always will beat a untrained goku you would have to literally give him some random power up that would make no sense to begin with so zamasu being goku black is the better option a real goku who is evil just doesn't work

I wanted to like him but the writing around him was too obvious that he was another Zamasu from another timeline. Like they hinted at it way too much. I figured it out when he first fought Goku. Especially with the similar Ki Zamasu weilded.
