People do have to remember as popular as Dragon Ball is worldwide dubbed in over 28 languages it is also deep Asian culture. So when people look at how quick they got married, most are looking from western eyes but that was very common in Asian cultures. Sometimes even still to this day but especially way back then. It's a natural mistake to make since we do look through our own lenses sometimes but Dragon Ball in it's essence, is a culmination of Asian culture. Specifically Chinese & Japanese culture. Love Suzy Lu's reaction to this series. She just naturally gets it overall.

Well said. And besides, if they’re both the same age-even a super young age to many of us-it’s more irresponsible than truly screwed-up; there’s no predatory or imbalanced aspect to it like there is when a 50-something man takes a 14-year-old wife. I don’t really agree with a couple of kids getting married, but I can’t think of nearly as many problems as there are when there’s a colossal age/generational gap involved. It just seems really ill-advised and irresponsible, like I said. Children are typically even more lacking in foresight and rational thinking than adults (though a great many so-called “adults” these days are scarcely any more grown up than your average grade school student🙄), and that’s a recipe for headaches and disaster when dealing with a big commitment and big life decisions.

not sure how old chichi is but in Japan especially around the 80's 15 was the age to get married. One can argue the moral implications of such ideas but this is a fictional world. Also we don't know how old Goku actually is but one can assume he's around 15 yrs of age. In short both Goku and Chichi are of the same age anyways and although Goku is kind hearted not to understand such ideals it's not something to worry to much over.

in europe we had similar also, long time ago, we called it arranged marriage, though ceremony was done when they reach certain age

Oxen and cows are both bovines, so in the same family. So Cowman is a, surprisingly, accurate insult. Especially coming from Pilaf.

Well, a cow is by definition female, while an Ox is an castrated bull. Castration is used make the bull more docile and thus suitable as a labor animal, being a significantly more affordable and robust alternative for a work horse.

To be fair, the Emperor said he had the Dragon Ball in front of Goku and then the shopkeeper said it had 4 beautiful stars on it... so ofc he'd just go after what's in front of him. The Dragon Radar was also out of his hands for a while, so he thought maybe it got broken, it's a reasonable assumption to make while in a chase situation. 😂 Ox King was referring to marriage in the future, Chi Chi made it sound like she wanted it now(probably some translation differences from JP to ENG). xD

I'm pretty sure in eastern cultures back when offering a daughter's hand in marriage was like basically the greatest form of thanks someone could give right? Like it was an expression of extreme gratitude. And then also they would want to marry their daughter off to someone they felt deserved it so win win i guess?
