Gold Coast Need A Better Guernsey - AFL Redesign

Gold Coast need a better guernsey and we're going to give it to them.
I’m going to design 4 different guernseys that are an upgrade on what the Suns currently have and I want you guys to help decide which of the 4 you’d like to see Gold Coast wear.

Thought from the beginning it looked like a training jumper. The idea behind new franchises is to magnetise them or make them attractive, in particular to younger audiences; you give them a unique name, colour and insignia, and the AFL fell well short here, especially given the difficulty of the market they were entering. It's nearly inconceivable. My idea was to have the Saints template, but use that light blue with the red and yellow in a tri-colour design. It avoids all clashes, also.

Brisbane Bears are merged with the Fitzroy Lions so they wouldn’t want them to wear it

@@mattn1 they should avoid the brisbane colours more. get rid of blue and replace with either white or light aqua. The aqua wave would look sensational. But I like the sun myself. Go yellow or red as alternate. Third alternative perhaps white or aqua. Bright colours should be the image. So blue out.

I would generally stick with red yellow and white for the Suns. Possibly aqua/sea green. The design should be red with yellow sun with a sillouhette of Gold Coast high rise and wave... Away you can go yellow jumper with red sun... that should help Japanese sponsorship. Unfortunate about Chinese colours then! The wave pattern is interesting. May work with aqua/sea green. I think they should certainly avoid blue due to Brisbane. An aqua wave is tempting actually. But red and yellow is so iconic. So I'd aim for the sun with the sillouhette. And/or the wave design. Then be consistent across the various jumpers. Don't be scared of wearing all yellow or yellow with red shorts. The bright colours is their image.

As a Gold Coaster #1 easily but without the tacky logo and the darker red Aussie Rules is already a foreign game up here and all the tacky marketing gimmicks from the SUNS , the logo and the awful jersey it doesn't feel like the clubs from here to us locals. The whole club to us locals just looks like some 2000s marketing thing. I think starting off with the jersey looking more traditional would be a great start. A white guernsey with red and yellow stripes like in #1 would look amazing

Firstly i do like the burgundy red as to the Washington gridiron team however i don't see how the gc spot logo has to be the centre of the guernsey design!? Something like the Brisbane bears 1980s qld map design would be much more appealing IMO

The darker burgundy red is best with the gold top half design, resemble the structure of the Brisbane Bears Guernsey from 1989-91! However the lighter tomato red is best with the with and gold bands in the Footscray style format

Design 2 looks the best but as a sky blue is one of their colours and white is not, I'd go with a blue stripe between the red and yellow.

All the bright red look better and I think design 1 but with the white stripe being Yellow and the red bit between the stripes being blue would be great because I have always seen Gold Coast Colours as Mostly Red and Yellow with a hint of blue

2:21 How to make GC stand out isn't by turning them into Red Bulldogs, mate. 3:00 This is a great look. Better in red than Burgundy, personally. The inverse look for a clash jumper would be really eye catching as well. 3:15 Is this the only design element available in Australian sports? regardless of the sport in question, it seems at least 50% of the teams have a V on the chest of the jersey. it baffles the mind. 3:45 should certainly make a comeback.

I would love them to have an all Red jumper with the 2016-18 Clash Jumper design with the Gold Chevron bit no blue on top but maybe as Pinstripes on the Chevron. Their Away jumper should be based on the Suns 2011-2013 Waves design but in Gold. The Clash I would love them to Have the 2016 Clash Jumper that was ditched with the Blue and Yellow horizontal stripes. The Alternate should have an all white jumper with Red and Gold stripe in the middle to represent the Gold Coast LifeGuards.

They’re kind of trapped in a weird design niche. Being famous for beaches, blue and gold would have seemed the obvious choice, but Brisbane and West Coast sort of had a lot of that territory covered between them. The bright red is a decent solution though, because Sydney are the only club with a home strip that uses a lot of red (yes Essendon and Melbourne exist, but that’s probably only 20% of their jumpers if you break it down) Maybe the simple carlton-like, ‘solid colour with contrasting logo consisting only of letters’ will come to be a classic if the club last long enough to build up a sense of history. Personally I think the gold V is a good addition though. Does break up the design nicely, and it’s not like they’re called ‘the reds’

I think the big problem is they’ve gone for a Carlton/Fitzroy style monogram with a “modern twist” but it just didn’t work out, the other problem is they won’t realise it needs to change

Next minute, gold coast changes the jersey design and thats what they needed to be a winning team 😅😅 Design 2 is my favourite, 4th design is good too and it threw me as to why they scrapped it, but as a lions supporter, no dark red! Too close to lions colours. Tbh I never liked gold coast in the mcdonalds colours, the light blue was actually a fresh change for me. Never really understood a lot of goldcoast's choices for branding tbh.

The burgundy clashes with the Lions jumper, the problem with the suns is in their club song red, gold and blue. The first one looks like the Bulldogs pattern, the 2nd and 3rd one looks too much like Fitzroy & Brisbane.

The number one negative about Gold Coast's guernseys is their horrible bland logo (even their official team website is super bland!). I reckon designs 1 and 3 look as good as you can get with their logo incorporated though they're really modified existing guernseys. I've always like the idea of a red guernsey with two vertical stripes offset to one side. They could both be gold but I like the idea of one gold and one blue. Could then easily have a gold version that I think would look really dynamic - at least it does in my head without ever having seen it put to paper anyway. I even like the idea of a blue version though all their marketing these days is based around the red and gold.

You missed the biggest problem IMO. The GC logo has to go. It’s so bland and uninspired. They need to emphasise “Suns” instead of Gold Coast. West Coast and Greater Western Sydney don’t have WC and GWS on the guernsey. I don’t know why they do it for the Suns. I would have looked at some of the Phoenix Suns jersey designs for inspiration instead of Washington.
