I agree. That part was great, and the production quality was great, too. I wonder what information they have that they did not show. Certainly the part of the interview with Willie Doughit when he talks about how the gold bars they recovered from the Caballos were different than the ones in Vic Peak.

Good idea, I should have thought of that. The armor was probably fairly small. Just sounds like a super-tight space. If you have ever done spelunking, you may know what I am talking about. Nightmare stuff.

More than one period of treasure, but all put in there by the same group . . . the Knights of the Golden Circle. The older artifacts were almost certainly included in the Maximilian wagon train of treasure from the Mexican royal palace and treasury. The later bars and coins (Wells Fargo for example) were robbed from Northern banks, trains, and stagecoaches after the Civil War. The KGC had also sold $5 million in bongs to finance their aborted invasions of Cuba and Mexico. Much of that had been converted to gold. The KGC reportedly had a main depository out West disguised as an old, played out mine. That depository was almost certainly what Doc Noss found in Victorio Peak.

Interesting theory. Little 'ol Mesilla was briefly the Confederate capital of New Mexico and Arizona. My sense is still that the lowest "layers" are much, much older than the KGC or the US of A, for that matter. This is why we need to get this old mystery figured out somehow. Hopefully the new show will help.

@@lostadamsgold Jacob Snively and Jack Swilling were in Mesilla scouting for the CSA in 1860, just prior to the Pinos Altos Bear Creek placer discovery. By 1862, the rich placers were abandoned due to continuous Apache attacks on the miners. In 1963, after Fort West was established at the mouth of Bear Creek, Snively ("the German") led an ill-fated group back to exploit the diggings before the original claim holders returned. Years later, "Adams" surfaced and these diggings and became known as the "Lost" Adams Diggings. They of course were never lost.

Whatever your Adam's location theory is (much more exciting to think it is is the creek down the hill from your house, for sure), do you think that such gold ended up in the Peak? Not sure what you are saying about Snively lines up with what I've read in the Black Range Tales, Buscher, Dobie, or Rascoe, but I'm going off of memory here.

@@lostadamsgold Yes, another tale - much of it within an uncomfortable framework of facts. Those respected writers you mention are great folklorists (Buscher is unfamiliar to me). Great reading, yes, as is most of the LAD material. Whets the appetite. When younger, I used to thrive on such stuff, and still keep most of it on my bookshelf. Back in the day, I started with W.H. Byerts and A.M. Tenney. When active in this "TH field" (and all other aspects of life IMO), a curious one may realize he wants the truth no matter what it is. Maybe that's the "consistency" you allude to about me. If you can provide me a detailed private email address, I will send you a synopsis of my current LAD working model. Is this model the "truth"? I've changed my opinions numerous times on this subject over the past 40 years, and so far, it's the one that satisfies me the most. By the way, I also have a still photo clipped from a drone video in the Caballos that you might like.

AV I’m sure you caught the huge ring Willie Doughtit showed off in the first episode lol. What the heck was that? I mean is it me or is an actual item that was supposed to come from the peak very important? They just show him holding it making the claim then on to the next. I’m a research nerd. Over the last three years I’ve became what I call a cache lead purest lol. I source everything from primary sources only and if I google search the lead details and something comes up. And I mean anything I pass for now. I want the stuff completely lost to history. I say that to say Victorio Peak I respect a lot. Just the fact Ova fought so hard and so long is really proof enough. So that ring really caught my attention. Those other caches are out there. I almost have zero doubt. What’s your thoughts on the ring and cache locations if real?

From what I remember, that ring seemed like Pawn Shop Hero level bling, not something legit from an ancient stash. I imagine that folks like Willie enjoy inside jokes, and get off on wowing the Rubes without actually revealing anything useful. One thing that is interesting was in a video which has now been taken down, Willie, in his dotage and talking about how Doc was a good guy and that they got into some scrapes together, describes the Vic Peak gold bars, and then says something to the effect of: "the ones over in the Caballos were totally different". He seemed on the verge of explaining more, but sort of trailed off and then the video ends. I'm more interested in the Why and Who and When of any stashes than the stuff that might be in a stash. And, yes, I think there are more out there in general, but they seem so very hard to find. Oh well, at least the hiking and research is fun!

@@lostadamsgold he is a character that’s for sure. I agree the entire history of the entire area those old boys hiked and hunted is fascinating stuff. The history combined with the different personalities makes it a fun mystery to think about. I think it’s safe to say there was some gold and I can’t help but wonder what really ended up happening. The recent PA find that ends up being an empty hole has some interesting aspects as well. I try to stay out of the rabbit holes because the regular holes are deep enough lol. But sometimes it’s hard. Have you heard about the rumor that that gold is in dog Canyon New Mexico

I have not. There's documented finds of Apache caches in that canyon and in the region, mostly fetishes and little things like that. Usually buried and stuffed between layers of yucca fiber. I think there was at least one battle between them and the US Cavalry up in there.

The Apaches held off the Army for quite a while at Dog Canyon. I have severak shell casings, points and pottery from all over the area.

@@lostadamsgold I checked David Chandler's 100 Tons of Gold. Between pages 32 and 33 are a series pf photos. The first photo is of Ova Noss in 1973. The caption says, "In 1973 Ova Noss showed these objects to Albuquerque newsmen. She said they had been taken from Victorio Peak in the 1930s by her husband, Doc Noss. They include some spillover gold, presumably from a smelting operation." The spillover piece looks to be relatively flat, about two feet wide and perhaps 18 inches wide. The photo is black & white but the mineral does look like gold.

What about rattlesnakes. Are they bad there?

Yes. A few tricks: 1) Of course they are slow or underground in the cold BUT, they will also hang out in sunny spots when it is cold but not freezing, 2) They seem to not like the wind. New Mexico is often very windy. I think it is because they are sensitive to vibrations and wind probably makes it hard to "hear" that way, 3) Kick rocks and beat the bushes with a stick to let them know you are coming, 4) Mostly they are not aggressive, though sometimes the big Western Diamondbacks will bulldog you a little; supposedly Mojaves are aggressive, but the only two I have ever seen were not. Don't be afraid, but do be respectful.

I mean, that's what Forest Fenn did, right? There's others who hide stuff and publish clues. I'm really most interested in the history, so finding some living dude's box of old silver coins he hid last week has about zero interest for me. Same with geocaching. I find geocaches all the time without even really trying. Even one misplaced rock is a screaming sign if you have "the Eye".

The family's struggle with the scenario at the Peak is definitely a major part of the story. Going up against the US Military is an insane proposition, but they did just that in pursuit of their rights. Being able to keep going when faced with other tough life events is truly incredible.
