Shot efficiency in this game was shocking: Efficiency is determined by whether or not the 3rd shot yields a positional advantage to the hitting team. ie. servers either hit a great shot or it allows Kitchen positioning. Winning team efficiency: 3rd shot drives : 33% 3rd shot Drops: 66% Losing team: 3rd shot drives: 40% 3rd shot Drops: 33% (note they dropped the ball about 3 times in the entire match) this alone IMO means they aren't 5.0 if they never attempt the shot. The Winning male almost always allowed his team to be in a great position and score after EVERY 3rd shot drop...he's REALLY good at it. Drives by either team were terrible. Dropping the ball would've allowed the winning team to probably win 15-4. The loss of so many serves is crazy when you look at the numbers. Notice, they did so well in the drops...and that is what carried them to victory, yet rarely attempted them...the losing team avoided the 3rd shot drop like the plague. And the shot at 19:20 was IN by a mile.

@@kathybell4878 I've done similar reviews yes. I look for the small things as they are the gaps in our game. But look at a video of your choosing and do the simple shot review. It's based upon effectively getting to the NVZ.

Cool analysis. How do you determine an efficient drive? Rarely does a 3rd shot drive get the serving team to the kitchen, it just allows for an easier 5th shot. For example what is the 3rd shot drive efficiency for the johns brothers in a match?

Great question!! Pickleball is played at the NVZ. An efficient drive was evaluated to 1 of 2 outcomes. 1. Instant end of rally. VERY rare occurrence as it's quite easy to counter. Obviously only useful at very low levels. 2. A drive that causes a short volley allowing the Driving player to achieve position at the NVZ or maybe a put away (also VERY RARE) from the defender block volley.@@Reck1025

Also, in about 1/2 of the ineffective drives if not all of them...the defending player from the drive disallowed any approach to the NVZ and shortly ended the rally with the driving player not at the NVZ@@Reck1025

I caught that as soon as the ball dropped, it was clearly in definitely! Not sure if this was a Rec game or not, as there was no Ref! I've been at some tournaments where there are even linesmen calling all the lines, and the Ref keeping score...SO much better, with no such mistakes!

In by a mile. They called it OUT before it even passed their bodies. and landed solidly on the line. The gal that hit the ball had to Put her hand over her mouth...Funny how these are out when the team needs help. That was an easy call to make IMO and the male should've overturned his partner...but the agreement is usually NOT to disagree ever and keep the advantage instead of actually showing sportsmanship....its actually sad..it happens throughout pickleball.

To all those saying this isnt a 5.0 gold medal match, it isnt. And if it is then everyone played up. 2 of the 4 players have DUPRs and one is a 4.6 and the other is 4.9 - a 4.6 and 4.9 combo is very unlikely to gold medal a 5.0 bracket...

Eh DUPR is kind of a mess rn. I have a 4.3 friend that easily wins most 4.5 tourneys he plays in. I’m a 3.9 on DUPR and went 12-2 in my last 4.0 tourney (mixed & men’s). I wouldn’t put too much stock into DUPR at the moment
