I can't say I have a favorite panda design. Love pretty much all of them, and the designs that aren't my favorite I still like (2014-2015)

You are right Siren there actually isnt a bad year at all. The newer ones are great and some of the old ones are fun too.

I'm not a fan of 1989, but otherwise I really like them. Some of the best art on any coins and in my opinion the quality of the art on the coins has gone up each year.

wow. had no clue the Gold pandas were worth thar much. Great Video!
@Numistacker8 жыл бұрын
Hey Pit they do have a tendency to increase in value over time and mintages and survivors up to 2010 are not huge.

I don't understand why panda premiums are so high across the board. Any panda, gold or silver seems to be stretching the premium envelope! Thanks for sharing!

+cabadejo I understand that, it's just amazing to me how they are really one of the only designs that climbs, even the freshly minted ones so fast. I have talked to several dealers who tell me that everyone used to so sided them basic billion and they just threw them in with thier generic silver. Not they are like hens teeth? I'm am really astounded. Even scrimping them back to 30 grams hasn't changed the panda lust, and don't get me wrong, I love the design myself!

Rich Chinese are buying Master Sets so dealers are buying up everything in sight to put these sets together. While chasing coins, some coins are harder to find and they shoot up in price. A 95 1/2 Gold Panda goes for $27,500.

Yes it happens every now and again. In many ways i prefer less coins and a higher value per coin.

I am thinking when collectors realize that the premiums for the 1/2 oz do not make sense, they will readily shift to the 1 oz/30g if the premiums were more reasonable. The 1 oz to me seems to be a good combination of gold value and collector interest.The nice thing about 1 ozers though is it continues to pile up its gold value irregardless of collector interest. Which is why there isn't really much of a need to flip 1 ozers. Time will tell how all of this unfolds. :)

The 1/2 is chasing the horse after its bolted. In my view the 1/2 has been so hyped now that it makes sense to look for value in other denominations.
@thinkvesting40238 жыл бұрын
Agree... :) What is your fearless forecast on this? Trickle down to 1/4, 1/10? Or scale up to 1 oz/30g? ;)

+ThinkVesting Gold Silver Investing hunt for value and don't go for a date run. It's not easy to find value. 1/20th is overlooked.. 1/10th is an easy choice and not too expensive. My favourite remains 1/4 but I can never find them at the price I am happy to pay. My play at the moment is ultra low mintage medals and I have placed a large order for the Nanjing Panda medals including 3 brass with 100 mintage and a pair of antique with 30 minted. I prefer to buy the right things early and wait or pick Sovs and pre-33 for long term stability
@2011blueman6 жыл бұрын
The 1/2 oz coins in most years had the lowest mintages. The prices reflect the numismatic value of the coins. It's not really about the gold value of the coins at this point.

Would love to add ANY Gold panda to my stack, but I am not exactly flush with cash for a while. Maybe 1/10 oz if there is such a beast.

The 1/20th Pandas are overlooked right now and make a great intro to some of the older years.

I love pandas! One of these days I will do a full stack panda set. I think the market is too hot right now, even in the 1/4 market, I've been priced out. Believe it or not Pandas are still very much more liquid for me than bullion while maintaining or increasing the premium. It's actually quite amazzzing. The only thing I would say is to shy away from the more common dates, don't waste the funds on those. Go for the gold semi-keys. The thing about the 1 oz, many of them were kept as collector items so the surviving population is higher than the fractionals. The 1/10 being the most popular and most available. The 1/2 had the right mix of low mintage and low surviving population. As time progresses, this should move into 1/4 and is already priced in several 1/10ths. The largest part of my AU portfolio is pandas.

The 1oz does have one thing for it.. it has a full one ounce of gold in it no matter what market sentiment is. I probably have too many common dates and I would never chase a set but I am happy having a few of different sizes for each period and not tying up all my cash in them either.
@ikeo18 жыл бұрын
Numistacker Very true, but in the same respect you miss out on appreciation these are known for. I don't mind having my set now that I have it, but my picks would be different. The 1 oz though like you said is already a large size and ties up a bit of $$. You buying 2003 vs another year is a better move than buying an mid 80's or post 2010's with the same money.

Why is the 1/2 oz 50% more in value than the 1 oz?
@Numistacker8 жыл бұрын
Everyone is collecting 1/oz right now. Mintage is lower at 23k odd but maybe more were melted I don't know
@wafdawg8 жыл бұрын
+Numistacker The 2003 1/2 is either the lowest or 2nd lowest mintage 1/2 oz of the millennia. I've seen a sale since the one you referenced that was over $4k. The 2000 1/2 oz frosted now fetches $3500 OMP. 94 1/2 now goes for $10k. I don't think prices are going down but very hard to obtain them all. Very nice 2003 1 oz. I think that's a smart pivot. The 1/4 oz are already pricey and there's a huge base of 1/10 oz collectors. The 1/20 oz are the forgotten ones so maybe there's a chance to make some money there.
@Numistacker8 жыл бұрын
+Panda King were many of these years melted?
@wafdawg8 жыл бұрын
+Numistacker Yes surviving BU population is estimated to be at less than 3000 on the 1/2 and less than 5000 on the 1/4. The 1 oz, less than 6500.

The omp.is $400 less than a 69

Who knows, who knows ? The half ounce is clearly a total rip off, even the ounce is a sketchy deal. With these premiums buyers will NEVER get their money back. Please see my "Silver Stacker Challenge video" It talks about how hard it is to get a return on your PM's.
@Numistacker8 жыл бұрын
It is hard I can vouch for that )) please stackers it's not a road to short term profit generally it's a long term wealth builder and even then timing is all.
@MUDSWAT8 жыл бұрын
I should mention now with premiums as high as they are. A stacker would have to wait till gold was over $3000-$3500 to see a profit. Silver would need to be at $30-$40.. Who knows if we will ever see those prices/again. High premiums are a major issue for stackers, I promise...!
@Kered-98 жыл бұрын
+MUDSWAT You can buy silver bars from 39 cents to 99 cents over spot. ..... therefore you would need silver price to go up $2 to make a profit. ...
