😥Don't you LOVE it when you trudge through rough, hilly terrain for miles, but by the end of the trip, you realize you ended up with several pounds worth of extra gear and stuff that you never used! I went on a 3 day mid-winter Appalachian trail hike in 2007, and I had to completely re-equip with gear, because what gear I had left, was pretty old and not of highest quality. Lol. I literally had nothing that was proper for a long, cold weather backpacking trip! So I bought new, light and ultralight gear, including backpack, sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad, water filter, backpacking stove, titanium utensils, new boots, ALL new backpacking clothing, jackets, etc etc. So we reach Shenandoah natl park, and by the end of the 35-40 mile trip, it was obvious that I'd packed at least 8lbs more stuff than I needed, and that makes a BIG difference when you're hiking up and down mountain trails in 15-22°f windy weather, especially if you are a smoker(which I was back then)!

You reckon that's a big ant. In West Aussie we have "Sergeant Ants" up to 1&1/4" long and they've got a hell of a bite. At night we scrape the top of their 12' diameter nests off before they get out to attack. As we all know ants are incredibly strong & they sometimes bring a stack of "fine" gold specks up out of their nests systems. Only a fool tries it during the day. 🤔😏😁. Oh yeh before I forget great vid in beautiful country & terrific not to see rubbish littering the ground. Good stuff TVR.

There's a place that I used to hike that had a trail that was littered with red garnets. After a good rain, I'd go out and pick them up and store them in Mason jars that ended up being very heavy due to the density of the garnets. There were also several very large boulders of pure white quartz too (VW Beetle size), which leads me to believe there may be gold also.

I've also heard that blue pans are the best ones to use. Idaho, by the way, is a mega state for gold.

That's on the Middle Fork Feather River isn't it? I never hiked down into Devil's Canyon but rode my motorcycle by there many times on Milsap Bar Road. I used to dredge, rock pick, highbank, and trout fish down river from there. With base camp at Milsap Bar Campground. In my experience there is not only lots of black sand in the Middle Fork but also mercury. I'm not sure it is natural, I think it's from the old timers setting mercury traps. When I was through dredging or digging a hole I would throw a current year penny in the bottom of the hole before filling it back in. We not only used crow bars to roll large rocks, we packed in gas powered winches and would move VW Bug size rocks. I knew there are garnet around. I found a spot with VW Bug size garnet boulders. They weren't high quality though, so I never put much time into them. Just broke off a few chunks up to about 50 pounds to bring home and set in my yard. Which of course got stolen because dirt bags thought it was worth something. --- I never could sleep in a hammock because I sleep on my stomach, and sleeping with your back bent backwards is not a nice experience. --- I could always get in the water earlier in the season than everyone else, and stay in longer in the season, because I have a dry suit, not a wet suit.
@TVRExploring4 жыл бұрын
Close, but it is a different watershed than the Feather... You weren't messing around if you were moving VW-sized boulders! I remember in the 1980s, the creeks and rivers would be absolutely full of guys dredging for the summer. And it seemed like they were doing well enough that they could kind of coast by for the off season. In other words, it seemed like a way of life for a lot of those guys that were out there all summer. We still come across the remains of their camps sometimes. It seems like it would have been a hell of a lot of fun. I'd love to hear more about your time when you were doing that.
@DFDuck554 жыл бұрын
I assumed the location because you said it was Devil's Canyon. But I imagine there are many places called Devil's Canyon. Recreational dredging and highbanking was banned by liberals claiming that it destroyed fish breeding grounds. The fact is the exact opposite is true. Trout and salmon loooove laying their eggs in the gravel tailings from a dredge. For cleaning out the bottoms of cracks like the guys were doing in your video I used a gas powered shop vac that mounted on a 5 gallon bucket. I don't know if they're even legal to use anymore here in Commiefornia. In this state if something is fun, they will either ban it, grossly over tax it, or write impossible to understand regulations for it.

@TVRExploring4 жыл бұрын

I've found a 1/2 ounce piece, encased in Quartz, at the top of a bar and a 1/4 ounce piece under an old hopper 600 feet above the present river. Within the last three months, a homeless guy found a two pound chunk and then went back and found a 9 ounce piece. After the fire the hillsides are denuded so, for the next few years there will be a lot of material washed down. There's still 70% of the gold left in the Motherlode. Most of it microscopic. But not all.
@TVRExploring4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Yes, I hadn't thought about how the fires would shake up the experience of looking for gold, but that makes a lot of sense. The fires certainly make it easier to spot open adits too.

@TVRExploring4 жыл бұрын
They were very effective at recovering gold considering what they were working with... Indeed, selfish old timers. The saving grace for modern prospectors is that storms will wash fresh gold into the creeks and rivers and churn up the riverbed. This rearranging exposes new gold. However, it doesn't have eons to accumulate and just be sitting there to be picked up as the first old timers enjoyed.

"A Gold mine. A hole you throw money in." Mark Twain
@paulcallicoat75974 жыл бұрын
@@TheNimshew I believe Twains quote went more like this:The definition of a mine is a hole in the ground with a liar standing next to it. Seems lots of mines were selling stocks on the stockmarket on bogus reports or salting them at the time.They were mining the shareholders.It continues today in the stockmarket with the board of directors and management of lots of companies fleecing the shareholders while paying out low or no dividends in relation to their earning and the workers are treated to low pay and no benefits.When the companies go under from all the thievery the pensions are gone or little left.Examples would be Sears,GM,Ford,various airlines and banks.Why you might ask is how they get away with it? Management being no dummies will pay off our elected representitives with large donations of our money.Bribes to continue to steal is supposed to be illegal but they also have lots of lawyers/liars and can keep stealing.Small timers get caught on occasion.I owned GM and they went bankrupt leaving the shares worthless.Then they reorganized,got a bailout with our tax money and then issued new shares.Did I get any of those new stocks to replace my old ones?Hell no!!!! Be forewarned if a company is doing badly,sell your stocks no matter what the analyst are saying.I learned if a stock is being pumped, short the hell out of it and enjoy the money when it crashes.Companies like cmg,goog,amzn with stock prices over $1000 per share that pay no dividend are going to fall faster than skivies on the hookers in a navy town on payday when the shtf.Why would anyone care what a company claims is profits when shareholder are getting nothing for investing in them????It reminds me of Wimpy on Popeye who would promise to pay back on tuesday for a hamburger today.Tuesday never came around if my memory serves me. Gold is hard to find and even harder to keep once found.Keep yours secret and let nobody know if you do strike it rich.Mums the word.
