Join Jason, ‪@Danhurd‬ and Brent with ‪@GhostTownLiving‬ they return to the historic Cerro Gordo Ghost Town and Silver Mines on an epic quest for gold! In this thrilling sequel to Jason's previous adventure, the trio employs a variety of prospecting techniques, including metal detecting, sniping, and gold panning, to unlock the secrets hidden in the rugged terrain.
Armed with stories from old newspapers recounting tales of colossal gold nuggets unearthed from the underground workings at Cerro Gordo, the team begins their journey at an elevation of over 8500 feet! The mountains above the town reveal numerous workings to explore, including the iconic Jefferson Chimney-a structure that exposed solid galena for an astonishing 1100 vertical feet. This was the primary location for mining silver and lead at Cerro Gordo.
Following a preliminary search, Dan delves into the old mine dumps and tailings piles, hoping to discover gold and artifacts that tell the tale of Cerro Gordo's rich mining history. The team then shifts its focus to the most promising gold location-the wash below town. Here, they meticulously search bedrock cracks, crevices, and employ metal detectors to uncover the elusive gold.
Will the team strike gold in the wash? Could Cerro Gordo transition from a silver mine to a gold mine in its next life? The answers lie within the cracks and crevices of the historic landscape. Stay tuned until the end to witness the exciting discoveries and revelations as the prospectors embark on this thrilling gold-hunting adventure!
Don't miss a moment of the action! Subscribe, like, and hit the notification bell to follow the team's exploration of Cerro Gordo, where history, mystery, and gold converge!

I spent a day up there near the Jefferson chimney metal detecting and it’s amazing how much sluff has covered over the original trails. It’s almost impossible to tell exactly what it looked like with the trails and flats where the huts used to be when the mountain has claimed most of it. This video doesn’t give the steepness justice, it’s a real ankle beater!

Going into the high country and not preparing with a hypobaric chamber…pshaw and humbug! 😅😅 I remember when I spent a winter in Breckenridge, CO (9600ft) all the ‘good ole’ TX, OK, LA, MO etc boys that would ruin their whole vacation by going out drinking the first night and ending up with altitude sickness! Just give ‘er a couple weeks and you’ll be getting close to Brent (minus losing about 40 lbs to be the same size) for goating around Cerro Gordo! Cheers and thanks for taking us along! 🖖😎👍

A lot of times there would false reports of gold findings to help shore up more funding to keep a operation going or to even get funds to start mining . Jason , that last shaft that you guys came across and you found that brecciated zone , Ide start looking below that area , a lot of gold was found in my mining district under those zones . The gold got precipitated out of those zones through time and concentrated back up below those areas . Also if there is any sphalerite in that area you might take a closer look at that stuff 👍🏻👍🏻

Jason. Have you looked at building 6 foot sections of belt conveyors that could be interlocked. Only for small rubble less than 1.5" powered by small starter motors in short bursts or electric bike motors . Allowing easy movement to bagging or bucket filling areas. Perhaps using aircraft wing spar extrusions for frames. Super light super strong.

i always thought that a good place to look for gold would be the just below the narrows when the road washes out. Right about 4800 feet where the sides start to close in on you. I know its not really feasible, because restoring the road is the most important thing at the time, just saying thats the point where **checks math** 1154 acres drains through. The narrows themselves drain about 750 arces.

When you are looking at the pillar in the Jefferson Chimney, the lead would have been in the vein which is that white coloured band in the pillar, the miner would have chased this band of vein all the way down the 1100feet and it would have widened and narrowed throughout, the exceptional bits are as you mentioned those super wide chambers you roped into. I have good examples of big lead stopes in my photos and videos here in the UK
