Is dredging allowed in NH?
@hipbeeexplorer4 жыл бұрын
Dredging is allowed in NH with a state permit and property owners permission but not within the White Mountain.National Forest.

Pretty cool stuff but I will gladly take a pass on wasted money! I've watched enough of your videos to know that if the spot has gold you guys do just as good panning vs a multi hundred dollar high banker! I love the simplicity that you two incorporate!
@hipbeeexplorer2 жыл бұрын
That's what I found too. That's why I don't use a dredge anymore. I don't like the noise of an engine running. I'm not out on the river for the gold. The day on the river IS the gold. If I find gold while there it's a bonus but if I don't that's ok too. Stay groovy.

So what’s the deal with sluicing on the Baker? Looking online you get the impression that everywhere on that river is state land, so only panning with free permit (you can pick up permits at the Plymouth ranger station Tuesday afternoons between 2-4), but you guys seem to be very on top of what you can do and where. I drove up along a good stretch of the Baker a couple weeks ago (checking out Polar Caves with my son then heading back to VT after a couple days at Twin River) and it looked like it was pretty flat, at least as far as Warren and the turn off for rt 25c. Is it safe to guess you guys were further upstream than that?
@hipbeeexplorer4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eben, thanks for watching. On state land you do not need a permit. On federal land you do such as the White Mountain National Forest. So outside of the WMNF you can sluice with landowners permission and that includes most of Warren and Wentworth. Where I was in this video is private land outside of the WMNF and I had permission from the land owner. The other video with Damon E Goss I was in wentworth on the side of the road outside of the WMNF. I didn’t ask permission because there was no houses nearby. I didn’t get bothered.
@hipbeeexplorer4 жыл бұрын
Oh and thanks for the tip about the Plymouth ranger station giving permits on Tuesday. I didn’t know that.
@ebo3604 жыл бұрын
I had planned on checking out the Baker on that trip I mentioned with my son so had called around. Online it said the Saco station was the only place to get the permits. Even Saco thought they were the only place. Coming from VT I didn’t want to drive all the way across NH to then drive half way back. A quick call to Plymouth confirmed they hand them out as well. I believe they said the permit is good for a year from date of issue, but if anyone else is reading this I’d confirm that for yourself before taking my word for it. Ditto for the day and times they do it. Things are always changing, especially these days. Thanks for the clarification about the state vs federal land. For whatever reason I strongly got the impression that prospecting on the Baker meant you had to use a pan only. Where does the National Forest begin? It’s not that obvious on the various map apps I was looking over. And a final question: how do you find out which landowners are ok with people prospecting their land? Is there a list or something out there? I did see some spots right next to the road that looked worth checking out that didn’t seem to be near any houses, but I wouldn’t want to step on anyone’s toes, or property without permission as it were.
@hipbeeexplorer4 жыл бұрын
I always look for the sign saying you are entering the White mountain National Forest. In this case the WMNF starts about 2 miles or so north of the town of Warren and about 2 miles up RT 118. My rule of thumb is this. If there is a house around I go someplace else. If there is no house and no signs saying no trespassing or private property then I go there until someone tells me I can’t. Never been bothered in 8 years using this method. Remember, out if site out of mind.
@andersgarp35173 жыл бұрын
@@ebo360 the permit is only good for the calendar year in which you obtained it. Also you can get it in Lincoln as well at the visitor center
