MOC Contest Rules:
1. The MOC Contest opens on 24th July 2023. You can enter until the end of Sun 27th August 2023, until midnight UTC / GMT. There is no guarantee that late entries can be considered.
2. There is no theme - MOCs can be entered on any theme.
3. One entry per person / per channel.
4. Your MOC must be your own design. If you collaborate with others or use elements of a design created by others, you must credit them in your video.
5. Your MOC must be made out of Lego. MOCs containing non-Lego elements will not be accepted unless they are visually indistinguishable from Lego. If you MOC is displayed against a non-Lego background (e.g. blue paper or a printed sky, for example), it will not be disqualified but the background won't be considered as part of the MOC. Use of lighting elements inside or attached to your MOC is permitted. Custom / customised minifigures can be used.
6. There is no piece limit.
7. You can enter any MOC that you have created, so long as it hasn't been entered into a previous Gold Puffin contest.
8. To enter, upload a video of your MOC & include #goldpuffin100k in your video description. You must also comment on this video to make me aware of your entry, otherwise I may not see your entry. If you don't wish to upload a video to KZbin, you can email a video or photos of your MOC to [e-mail]
9. I will judge the winner of the contest

Brickfilm Contest
1. The Brickfilm Contest opens on 24th July 2023. Entries can be submitted up until the end of the day Sunday 10th September 2023, until midnight UTC / GMT. There is no guarantee that any late entries can be considered.
2. Your entry must be a brickfilm - a stop motion animation made using Lego. You can use non-Lego elements in your brickfilm but it should be mostly animated with Lego. You can also use computer generated effects & images but your video shouldn’t be mostly or completely CGI. If you are unsure whether your video will count as a brickfilm, please contact Gold Puffin before entering.
3. I am the judge of the contest. I will score of aspects of the video such as lighting, voice acting, cinematography, story & script, animation of movement, emotional engagement / interest, camera angles & camera movement, sound effects, editing, pacing, & sound editing. However, these aspects are only a guide & ultimately which is the best brickfilm may be down to the synergy between elements & the overall impression created.
4. There’s no theme - your brickfilm can be about anything.
5. Please include the number 100 somewhere in your video, & something silver. These can be included in any way you like - as creative or simple as you like.
6. There’s no maximum or minimum length for your video.
7. Please don’t include swearing or NSFW content in your video. Moderate levels of fighting, violence, & mild gore are fine, as is mild bad language. Please do not include extreme gore, graphic scenes of torture, or anything hateful or offensive.
8. If you collaborate with others or ask other people to do voices don’t forget to put their names in the credits.
9. To enter, upload your brickfilm & include #goldpuffin100k in your video description. You must also comment on this video to make me aware of your entry, otherwise it is possible that I may not see your entry. If you do not wish to upload a video to KZbin, you can email your video to [e-mail]
10. Your channel name & a clip of your brickfilm may be shown in a Gold Puffin video when I announce the contest winner.
11. Full details about the prize below
PRIZE:
There is a prize for the winner of the MOC Contest & a prize for the winner of the Stop Motion Contest. There is no prize for 2nd & 3rd place.
The winner of each contest gets a prize of any Lego set up to the value of 100 US dollars. The Lego set must be available to purchase at the time the prize is awarded, for the price of 100 US dollars or less. The prize will be delivered either by me purchasing the set online & entering the winner’s address into the delivery information, or by Gold Puffin sending a voucher to the winner to be used in the Lego store or another retailer. The winner may choose multiple sets with a combined value of 100 US dollars, or Lego pieces from the Lego website pick a brick with a total value of 100 US dollars.

Hey thank you so much! For the brickfilm contest, it doesn't matter the fps you use, but I would recommend trying for probably 8fps as a minimum. And you don't need to write a script, it's fine - whatever works best for you. If I mentioned in the video that I'll be judging the video partly on the script, I didn't mean it has to have a script written down, I just mean that the dialogue / what the characters say will be one of the components that I look at when I'm thinking about how good the brickfilm is. Hope that explanation makes sense and doesn't make it more confusing, haha! And yes, I hope you hit 100k too! :-)

Are costume minifigures printed on real lego pieces and weapons such as brickarms allowed in the contests?

Yes, those are all definitely allowed in the brickfilms. In the MOC contest, printing is fine and I think I should make an exception to allow use of non-Lego weapons since many weapons are unavailable in Lego and they are necessary for some themes of MOC like WW1 or WW2 themed MOCs.

I'm adding this pinned comment to answer some FAQs and clarify some rules. I will edit this comment to update it if more questions come in that I want to answer here: Q. I live outside the USA / outside the UK, can I still enter the contest? A. Yes - the contest is open to people from any country in the world, and if you win you will get the prize wherever you live in the world (in some countries it may be harder than others but we'll find a way!) Q. Can previous winners enter? A. Yes. Previous winners can enter (obviously with a new video!) and will be judged the same as other entries, so it might be possible to have someone win who has previously won a Gold Puffin MOC or brickfilm contest. Q. Can I use custom Lego minifigures? A. Yes. Q. Can I use non-Lego weapons in my MOC or Brickfilm? A. Yes. Although I said in the rules of the MOC contest that you can't use non-Lego elements (unless they look identical to Lego), I am making an exception for weapons because they may be required for a WWI or WWII themed MOC. Q. Does my brickfilm or MOC video need to be in English? A. No, but if your video isn't in English and you want me to be able to understand it then please add subtitles. Q. Is there a minimum age to enter the contest? A. No. The contest is open to people of all ages. If you are a child then please follow the usual guidance from your parents/guardians about what you're allowed to do online and check with them if you are not sure. Q. Is there a minimum FPS for my brickfilm? A. You can make your brickfilm using whatever FPS you like. I would recommend 8 FPS as a minimum for most clips, and 10 to 15 as being preferable. I wouldn't recommend using higher framerates than 15 unless you are experienced with them and okay with taking a LOT of photos, but it's totally up to you. Q. Does the "something silver" that is included in the brickfilm need to be made out of actual silver? Can it be a grey Lego piece? A. I am not expecting you to use a piece of real silver - I was thinking of a silver Lego piece or grey piece, or just the mention of the word silver in some way, but It's up to you - I am not going to be strict about your inclusion of the silver item (or the number 100). If you don't include it I won't subtract points! Q. Can I enter an old brickfilm or an old MOC? A. Yes. You can enter any brickfilm or MOC so long as you haven't entered it into a Gold Puffin contest before. However, I would encourage you to make a new brickfilm if you are entering the brickfilm contest, as the contest could be a good motivation to get you brickfilming and to help you improve (if you are trying to improve - I guess some people don't care about improving and do it purely for fun whereas for other people improving is part of the fun)

A few questions before I enter (I’ll enter regardless, I just want to plan out the prize in case I win) Question 1: could the prize be a bricklink order? Question 2: does sales tax go towards the 100 dollars?

Hey, good questions. Answer 1: Yes Answer 2: Yes, I believe Sales Tax would be part of the 100 dollars. (In the UK we don't have Sales Tax, we have VAT (value added tax) but it is always considered part of the price of the item i.e. all our shops show the price including the VAT and normally no one even knows how much VAT they even paid. I don't know which countries Sales Tax applies to when buying second hand goods and which it applies to on new Lego. The other problem with Bricklink is that postage can be very expensive if items come from overseas. If all the items were from one seller then I would probably not count the postage as part of the 100 dollars but if the winner wanted to buy from 15 different shops in different countries then it might be a different story. I think I'll worry about these questions when I know who the winner is because they might not want to buy from Bricklink, but it's kinda gonna be like $100 for the items plus I'm happy to pay like around an extra $20 for shipping or something like that.

Hey, sorry but 2nd and 3rd places don't get a prize, only for 1st place. But there is one for 1st place in the brickfilm contest and one for 1st place in the MOC contest. I went to Romania once but I didn't go to any shops with Lego, but I have travelled a lot and I was shocked at the price of Lego in a lot of places. In the UK the price is good compared to many other countries. Actually though 50 Lei for a small set doesn't sound too bad compared to the UK but then you have to compare to the price of other items and the cost of living and how much people get paid on average to really know if it's a lot or not.
