I've been starting to hang onto and micro scrap a little more for the gold plated stuff thanks to you and e-waste Ben. Still a good video so we know. Id say to anyone doing this to wait until you have a good supply of stuff before you dip it.

Thanks Moose! I've been hanging on to some telecom boards. Disappointing in the gold amount but now we know! Thanks man!

Yea they are tough sometimes. I had a 40lb tote of those that sat for a few years. I got tired of looking at them & moving them around so Boardsort ended up with them.

I actually have a few boards like that…….have you tested those tracings???? I figured that it wasn’t actually gold plating the entire board like that.

Timing of this couldn’t be any better. I was just sifting through a bunch of boards today thinking it was time for me to search KZbin on how to process them. Go online to see first thing you posted a video about it

I've recovered some gold like this. I used salt & vinegar and it only took 8 to 9 days for 90% of the Plating to be removed. You're right, not a whole lot there. I still have the filters with the gold in it still sitting in a baggie waiting to be refined with other gold as well.

Moose, it might be worth trying a bucket heat band like is used to heat honey. In the colder months it may help keep your bucket in the preferred reaction temps.

Easy as the portaband is, eye and respiratory protection is a must! The micro silica dust is a big health hazard if doing this indoors. Good video otherwise! 🍺👌🏻👍🏼

Howdy Moose. Is it possible that the boards were gold flashed and not gold plated? Flashing is considerably thinner than plating. And this would explain the speed of removal and the small particle size. I've got about 6 pounds of those boards - will just keep saving them. Great video - as always!! Take Care, Jim

Gold flashing fools so many people unfortunately. A handful of trimmed gold PLATED fingers yields better than all those boards. Great for reselling, not for refining unfortunately.
@mistaralph34362 жыл бұрын
How do you know what's flashing and what's plated just got me thinking about it???
@redbaronrefining53222 жыл бұрын
@@mistaralph3436 flashing is usually put onto newer (year 2000 to recent) in telecom boards as a electromagnetic shield and is found most often in radio/telecom applications such as satellite dishes, antennas and duplexers for cell phone towers, and even some medical board as well. Easiest way to really tell is to put a drop of nitric on the board. If the gold basically disappears or turns into very tiny pieces rather than a nice foil, it’s flashed. Flashing is many many times thinner than plating as it uses a process called sputtering to apply gold atoms as thin as possible on a surface.

I don't see much gold recovery from you in a while. I gotta say that I recover gold from e-waste as a hobby. But more than once it has paid my entire rent and bills. Not easy to say in Florida. 1200 a month is a lot in other places.
@Rob337_aka_CancelProof Жыл бұрын
On the bright side because so little gold can go so far at least you don't have to worry about running out and I suspect we will be able to continue making electronics at the current rate or more on into the Future 4 at least my lifetime anyhow which gives them a few years to come up with something to take its place or more efficient means of reusing what we have
