Other option is to get a soldering machine and graphite electrode for mini arc furnace. Much safer methods regarding vapor generation and not having gold dust flying away by torch.

Is there more gold on the fingers or in the chips? It is actually easier, faster and cheaper to feed solution of Copper Chloride forward from a previous batch. Saves on hydrogen peroxide and prevents solution of any of the gold. HCl and H2O2 can also dissolve gold. It usually falls out again when there is copper present, but it is a possible source of loss. CuCl2 cannot do that and it dissolves the remaining copper faster than HCl and H2O2.

Since gold is denser than everything else, couldn't you submerge the ram fingers into a crucible of molten lead and let the gold settle to the bottom? You'd have to hold them submerged with a steel screen, but the gold should liquify and sink. then you cool the lead, remove it from the crucible, and scrape the gold layer off the bottom. I would think that would be a much quicker process than waiting for the gold to dissolve into a solution then condensing it back into a solid. Granted you'd probably get a lower recovery percentage compared to doing it at the molecular level, but it would also be a much simpler process that you could repeat faster.

got a question, is the nitric acid 100% necessary or could ya just melt down those little flakes without much loss?
@ogbullion3 жыл бұрын
The foils on the fingers are karat gold, you can melt that but in the end is still 14 k gold, not pure.

@@ogbullion true, is the only way to purify it using nitric acid or is there a way i can do it with hydrochloric? NZ has heavy restrictions on nitric
@ogbullion3 жыл бұрын
@@MortallyMysterious You can use HCL+bleach to dissolve gold.

The gold worth 170 $ the chemicals cost 5 $
@hlalakar41563 жыл бұрын
As of the time I posted this comment the value of that gold would be about 166 dollars. I wonder if this could actually be profitable taking into account time and expenses.

Question... why use tap water when distilled is so pure?
@ogbullion3 жыл бұрын
Pointless to use expensive distilled water, there is no silver in solution to cause problems.
