Phoenix (#3): In 1900 Phoenix became an incorporated city with 2,000 inhabitants, two railroads, an opera house, an ice arena, fifteen hotels, and nearly 100 businesses. For almost twenty years its mines yielded mountains of copper ore and gold. By 1919 mineral output declined and Phoenix was abandoned overnight. It stood as a classic ghost town for nearly 20 years before it finally vanished.

Live in GF love Phoenix as my second home, been thorough many of the relics of these mines (shout out EXploring Abandoned) and it Is a place one can truly touch history with your hands. Needs to be preserved.

While it is true the town is gone many of the underground workings are still there and intact. There is still a ten car train parked on a siding in the mountain.

My great grandfathers brother was a hotel Keeper in Roseland according to the 1901 census. His name was Martin Salmon. His nephew John J Salmon, was killed in a mine explosion in Phoenix about 1905. He is buried in Greenwood(?) I would like to find out where I can communicate with you, or your guest to find out what I can, about these two relatives.
