Employees that represent the school will deserve and receive greater criticism. Expectations will be higher.

Math will be fundamental again to everyone but the government. The list of university administrators waiting to protest or represent these new employees will be fascinating, along with national labor boards…think Indiana University graduate students current protest leading to faculty votes of no confidence. In the end, male sports that produce revenue & the offsetting female sports for Title IX. Unfortunately, all other sports & all other roster spots will go away. Anticipate, in basketball, a dozen or less scholarship players and former players hired to practice against them. In football, anticipate a smaller, NFL type roster of 63 or less guys that are up or out each year. The group of 5 & FCS level (in football) and mid major conferences, in basketball, will be the G/D Leagues-NFL Europe type experiences w/ essentially two-way contracts. *The real questions: (#1) the inter/intra-state binding commerce or labor contracts that will need approval by each party & third party arbitrators. (#2) what will states, that have a single major program (think Ohio/Louisiana) or states with surplus budgetsor booming economies (think Texas-Tennessee-Florida) will legislate for success and what states that run a tight fiscal program, have multiple major programs or have dire financial situations will have infighting, inertia or opt out altogether. (#3) how early will CAA, IMG, Athletes First and other representation groups sign players. The premier leagues find and develop players, around the world, at a young age for their clubs. Expect the agency representation groups to formalize this & compete with the IMG & other basketball feeders. (#4) how many smaller schools are going to throw up their hands and declare enough? Interesting thought. I suspect many group of 5 universities will only have a basketball team & and offsetting Title IX sports.

so now as a student i pay for the student athelets salary! while the actual students get in debts for attending Purdue! these athletes should not be qualifed as students! They are employees, revenue generating bodies! they should pay for their owm damn education!

I agree. When they turn from student athletes to employees, why should they get scholarships, too?

Why will players (wealthy employees) bother going to class? Why should a university cover tuition, meals, and housing for "paid employees"? Can a player (employee) who does not measure up to the performance expected be "fired" from the team? How long before high school players become paid employees? In that case - do child labor laws apply? I'm not optimistic about the health and future of college - or ANY - sports.

The allocation of the money to the athletes should be based on the revenue generated by that sport (TV and ticket sales). The "Olympic" sports that have little to no revenue should only get a small part of the TV revenue from the Big 10 network. The BTN would not exist if it was not for football and men's basketball.

I get this is how it's going to be now, but there is something I don't agree with. It used to be a school and a student/athlete entered into an agreement. Kid gets free education and some other stuff, and school gets athletic services. If said student doesn't like these terms, then he doesn't HAVE to go to college. Nobody is forcing them. When I get hired, I agree to terms with the employer. If I don't like it, I don't take the job. When these kids went to school they knew the terms. Now the schools have to retroactively go back and pay? How about just get rid of all athletic scholarships then? Who says Purdue can only have 15 scholarships? Why not 20? Oh, but those are the rules. It seems there are no rules

Seems to be the new primary relationship between the athlete and school is as an employee. Being a student is meaningless at that point.

One last thing. While I agree that student athletes were undervalued, do they realize that the school connection made them valuable? As an extreme example, does Zack Edey make even 6 figures playing basketball without the Purdue on his jersey? MAYBE in another country, but likely not in the US. While the student athletes are the ingredients in the cake, the schools and the NCAA are the oven that make the cake rise.

So markets are coming to full fruition in college athletics. I'm awaiting the complaints in about five years when market forces are realized.

If the athletes will now be paid employees then they should pay every aspect of their education including tuition, room, meals and insurance for any injuries they sustain. Those who are on the team who don’t get much in NIL monies should get the scholarships. This whole NIL stuff is making a joke out of these athletes and the universities. Greed is out of control.

Let's be honest, college athletics are really about marketing the school. Until the revenues got really big, a paid for education was considered adequate compensation. Nowadays, for the value they create for the schools, football and men's basketball players are very undercompensated, women's basketball less so as well as specific programs at specific schools (Iowa and wrestling, for example). For the rest of the programs, a full scholarship is more than fair. I could see a contraction in athletics once value and compensation are more closely tied together.

Question for you, Brian - when you essentially turn student athletes into employees, does Title IX even apply?
