Fantastic. It's great that Stewart talks so much about my hometown of Derby. I saw him there with Richard Herring as part of the Fist Of Fun tour and it was great. I still have my signed ticket where he circled the price and wrote "Thanks for the money!". I've since moved away to somewhere that has electricity and horseless carriages but that was a pretty great night.

Saw him at a gig in 2009 and sat on my own at the front as the person I was meeting there did not turn up or some sort of mix up along those lines. Terrified that the empty seat next to me would draw attention to me and he might say something. He must have noticed it but not a word. Very funny performance and I am still grateful he left me alone. I bet not every comedian would have done.

@@davidedmunds Of all the times to randomly meet Stewart Lee, forty degrees on one of the hottest days of the year in the Cotswolds is as good as any! Not surprised he was affable and amenable by the sounds of things. Looks like I was lucky. Perhaps he sensed from my countenance that I was scared of the empty seat next to me being highlighted. I have just remembered a long forgotten incident in 1992 when I saw Trevor and Simon at a theatre ( don't ask, I can't explain why I went) and they had a juggler as their opening act whose name I cannot remember. He threw two oranges at me as I sat there rigid on the front row hoping he would, yes you've guessed it, not throw anything at me. I was mortified as I knew there were people from where I worked in the audience too. My embarrassment was compounded when the gig came up in conversation and one of them said they thought it was me who had had the oranges thrown at them. I remember he threw them with some force and seemed to find my discomfort amusing!

@@davidedmunds The fact it has provided an anecdote out of the blue in 2023 almost makes me grateful it happened. Almost. Like it was meant to be in the service of remembered shame! Not seen a picture of Portmeirion on a channel before. I take it you are a fan of The Prisoner. Unless you just thought it was a good picture. My dad watched the original in the 1960s and encouraged me to watch it in 1983 when Channel 4 repeated the series. I thought it was good and Patrick McGoohan was a very accomplished actor. I bought the box set on DVD many years later when it was released but to this day have never got round to watching it. I have been to the village which is worth a look around. I would not stay in its expensive accommodation though, not just for fear of a bubble coming after me, or was that just on the beach?!

@@davidedmunds The Cold War and The Prisoner combined is enough to induce nightmares, although I am sure the pasties helped provide some respite from the unrelenting gloom of the period ( except the music). The price of accommodation at Portmeirion is excessive. I bet the prices could be hiked even further if it was possible for the bubble to be reactivated to trouble those who are gullible enough to pay through the nose for the privilege of being in the setting for McGoohan's psychodrama masterpiece. They could levy a £100 bubble surcharge. I bet Stewart Lee is a fan of the programme. It's clever enough to be up his street. I honestly think he is the one of the few genuinely gifted comedians in the UK. Kevin Bridges is another favourite.

Love this. First time I saw him was on a Saturday in a small room at LSE. I was quite drunk, his set wasnt long. He disected all things bright and beautiful with a venn diagram. Brilliant.

One of the best interviews i've ever seen, as a top fan of Stew's .. watching this inspired me to go to the lowry and see basic lee 2024 And i ended up in the audience and being recorded in the sky tv version.. Yeah i worked out its the last nights of the tour and media city is a brilliant place to record it.. all from watching this .. ? Yes. Totally a top fan .. ive seen this twice now for example . I saw the latest tour in Carlisle and he was really brutal about the place. At the time it was impossible to tell if it was part of his normal antagonism with his audience or a reflection of some genuine negative feelings about the place. It was superb!

Great interview. I'd love to know if Stewart is aware of geordie/mackem/pit-yakker comedy legend Bobby Thompson aka The Little Waster. He's been dead nudging 30 years and is as popular as ever up here. His act was a mix of historical and contemporary comedy from the perspective of a lazy work-shy miner. His jokes were phenomenally complex in their simplicity and in the broadest geordie accent which meant South of Middlesbrough his act didn't work.

Loved Stewart ever since I watched his Comedy Vehicle with Armando way back in like... 2009/2010 ish? As a student in Cardiff back then, we just had to see him, he was just fucking gold! Since then, a lifetime ago, I've seen him 3 times, and each time I have seen the development of his character - the slow crushing midlife crisis of the English man. I think he may be the greatest comic of the past 10 years. But who cares what I say on "the KZbins", you sad sack of shits.
