This is really getting suspicious. How on earth can you not send off Kovacic for the first offence? Comparing what Curtis Jones did last weekend where both players were face to face, a 50-50 where Jones was actually tugged back which took him out of stride. Jones still actually won the ball and got to it first but slipped over the top and gets a yellow upgraded to a red and it isn’t even comparable to what Kovacic did (contrary to what The Prime Minister of Football Gary Neville said). Kovacic was behind the player, had zero chance of winning the ball, was cynical, was lunging out of control and had his studs catch the Achilles heel of the opponent and survives a VAR check...it stinks to me. I have almost zero doubt that Sky (commentary) have been given some kind of mandate not to highlight awful decisions. Prime Minister Neville called it right immediately after the incident and after replays. He called that Kovacic was in trouble. Then as soon as the VAR ruled no further action he immediately said something like: “ohhh I was unsure about it. It’s similar to Curtis Jones last weekend. It’s an orange card...” Fk off Neville. Sky and the pundits are all sheep. I’m convinced that in some way the FA, PGMOL and other bodies have asked pundits and broadcasters not to highlight awful decisions - probably citing bullying of officials as to the reason why they shouldn’t highlight the decisions and potentially add fuel to the criticism. The pundits used to be all over awful refereeing and would not only highlight it at the time, but would also be speaking about it throughout the half. Now they just brush past it. It’s so obvious to me. DISGRACEFUL.

The red card criteria isn't really about intention, its about recklessness. The previous reds are more debatable, but Kovacic's was always a red because he was nowhere near the ball. Gusto got the ball and caught the player in the follow-through, and Jones was plain unlucky.

I’m a Liverpool fan and enjoy watching the show Mark. Couldn’t agree more regarding the inconsistency regarding decisions. kovacic should have gone on the first foul, but to catch a player with studs up again and still stay on the field is ridiculous. Premier league matches are a bag of revels enough without refs and var deciding whatever they want on the day. Shocking
