I used the GC Motorail in 1975 when I moved from Brisbane to Melbourne for work. Still had wooden-body sleepers then. Fond memories especially having breakfast in the Dining Car (or Buffet?) travelling along Mullet Creek & the Hawkesbury.

Fond memories, my dad was a driver at murbah from 1983 til 1989, used to go to work with him and eagerly waited the arrival of the motorrail

Awesome from a time where Governments actually provided services instead of cutting them.

And the Gold Coast Motorail made money.

Only ever got on it from Grafton to Sydney or Sydney to Grafton late 70s to mid 80s when I was in the Army going on leave. I did get on at Murwillumbah once in March 2000 but it was the XPT. Sadly it wasn't the same.

Best looking locos EVER. Did they ALL get scrapped??

Quite a few survived. Google "NSW 44 class locomotives" for more information.

The Derelict Casino- Murwillumbah line should be re-activate to HSV standards, and extended to Tweed Heads Coolangatta Airport. Difference of Gauge not a problem with QR and:NSW Rail meetinf at same Destination, the Airport, for easy connection to Interstate and International Flights, or onward movement to rest of Gold:Coast, Brisbane and:Brisbane Airport....the entire:Northern Rivers Area would have easy conections instead of having to go south toconnect with Sydney or the Sydney- Brisbane Kyogle line ( overloaded with freight traffic!)
