It must have been very satisfying for Sid to commentate on such a great match between two players he personally plucked out of the valleys and put on our screens in the Indoor League. I wonder how many people realise how important Sid's contribution to the rise of televised darts actually was.

Two of the games best ever players, both no longer with us. RIP Leighton & Alan
@bb700013 жыл бұрын
Leighton scored 137 - 180 - 180 - D2 = 10-Darter. The marker on the board had it right, the person doing the tv-scores was wrong! and these two welsh legends phenomenal !!!

In this event the throwing distance was 7 ft 6 inches, they started using the 7 ft 9 & a quarter inch throwing distance the following year.
@kanifuker7213 жыл бұрын
Yes but Reece preferred the 8ft distance from the News of the World days apparently.

Its a shock and depressing to think all of these familiar names aren't around anymore, Leighton Rees, Alan Evans, David Vine and Sid Waddell.

Great game! I thought darts were supposed to be a lot better now but that was impressive, swap the board for a blade 3 then even better with less bounce outs!

It would be nice to see some action from the other matches. Alan Glazier, Eric Bristow, Barry Atkinson, Conrad Daniels, Stefan Lord, Nicky Virachkul, Tim Brown etc

Alan Evans could be a bit of a hot head - following defeats, he once went for both Jocky Wison and Eric Bristow on different occasions.
@kanifuker7213 жыл бұрын
Jocky was just as bad and Bristowe was just a total wanker.

Darts was much better then, no false razzmatazz with the models, noisy chavs and stupid walk on's. The players could smoke and drink as much as they want which made the SPORT even better. Thanks for uploading this video.
@Dartitis-264 жыл бұрын
I love the walk-ons and noisy crowd, and I think it was the right decision to ban smoking on drinking on stage (imagine football without noisy fans and with smoking players while playing). You are right about the models though. We don't need those in a sport, no matter which.

That's a lot more than Wayne Warren got for winning it this year.... Money was gone when they lost Blackthorn Extra Dry Cider, then Embassy Cigarettes, then Bob and Maureen Potter. Amazing they made such a balls of it.

Does anyone know what dartboard they played on in the 1978 World Championship? Unfortunately there's no company name on the board itself.
@AllenJeremy4 жыл бұрын
It was called the BDO International Dartboard which was manufactured by Winmau who supplied the boards for the BDO World Championship until 2019.

@@AllenJeremy Wow, that's great information! Thank you! Really helpful. :) While we're at it, do you know any other official BDO Championship board of another year? I'm trying to make a list of all BDO/PDC Championship boards to compare them. Do you know how long the BDO International Dartboard was used? :)
@AllenJeremy4 жыл бұрын
@@Dartitis-26 It was used with some changes to the wires on the board until 1997 then from 1998 until 2019 the Blade dartboards were used, for the 2020 BDO World Championship the One80 Gladiator 3+ dartboard was used.

What was that other guy intimating? He didn't try too hard because Rees was his friend and not English! That is typical Welsh! The Welsh just never were Irish or Scotish. Or even French! They were just Welsh. And have been sulking about being so lack of passion for 700 years!
