I clearly remember the night I produced this soundtrack. What an inspiring night it was. Thanks for uploading it! :-)

Jeroen Tel years ago I read in the STIL notes for this game you converted the whole game soundtrack during a single night. That's impressive. I guess you've somewhat streamlined the working flow by the time, but you still managed to do an impressive job in a very quick time. Out of cuoriosity, which was the most difficult/challenging C64 you've done?

Jeroen, do you play classical piano? I just wondered, as you seem to have such a good feel for integrating the different parts in the music, like in this and the Stormlord main theme.
@JeroenTel7 жыл бұрын
I play the piano, but not classical necessarily. My classical music "observation" / training came mainly from the fact my father, who had a choir practice at our home every week since I was age 0. They sang so many classical songs from so many ages. At age 5/6 I had them all in my head (all 4 parts of them, bass, tenor, soprano, etc.) musically and phonetically. Quite an experience. On top of that my mother had a brilliant musical taste for music, so she played lots of classical music (Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, but also Leonard Cohen, the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and so many more fantastic songs (harmonically and melodically correct) from many artist and band. She taught me how to play the Recorder (flute). On top of THAT my father was totally into some artists like Keith Jarrett (in my humble opinion a piano genius) and also adapted to new artists as they came along. He also was a piano teacher (at home). (We always had that piano since I was 0)... Music was just always there! Of course I listened to the radio for my "teenager favorites, mostly electronic first sample based electronic stuff from the early 80-ies"... It's too much too mention. My grandfather was a conductor of a (big) choir too and was one of the first to play the piano at "silent movies" in the late 1920's and 1930's. My uncle (and godfather) was a music teacher (and he is a brilliant pianist / composer!). All my other uncles and aunt from the Tel side of the family also play piano / compose. It was mandatory to take piano lessons for them. ;-) The list goes back even further, generations. I hope that answers your question. ;-) My sister, my brother and I I've just been blessed with a very musical background. Thanks for taking the interest! :-)

listen to 0:50 - 0:58. That's some swinging demostyle beats right there and you can only pull it off on a c64. It's a signature sound and if you try it on a different sound chip it just don't have the same impact. The earth shattering bass, the snare drum, the way the bassline and the synth is arranged, it's just perfection. Do a remix with a 4 to the floor drum kick and start it off with just a drum and the synth riff, oh man.

@@julienbraudel7109Okay, he's not the original composer. But he did THIS arrangement and expanded the original composition for the better. And since in those times there were special programmes (MML-like or trackers) and not instruments as we have today (DAW, VST, etc.), it turns out that Jereon rearranged everything, and in fact composed it. Ok, produced it - as he said in his comments here.

I lost the plot when I first heard this at around 8yrs old. I loved it so much !! Definitely the best version of the game. lol! Story time - I was in a music class at school and we had the opportunity to create our own song using the piano. When the teacher asked me to play something I tried to play this song using only my right hand. The teacher didn't say anything other then that was nice. Of course, she wanted me to come off and give the opportunity to another child. Haha! Goes to show how much I LOVED Golden Axe back then and my love heightened when I purchased the game on my Atari ST (Tyrus Flare's lovely thighs...) and at the arcades. Gosh, what a game! Dammit that the series dropped so hard.
