Look more carefully at the crowd. Many people disliked him for not kissing as much ass as he should have in their view. There are some shots here were the audience isn't prepared for the shot. First Law of Thermodynamics: Energy can be changed from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed. Robin’s energy has not left us it has merely been converted from one form (human mass) to another( a part of the dark energy that makes up our closed system). 70% of the universe is made up of dark energy. IMO, It is where we all go when our body dies and is converted back from mass to energy. The dark energy of the world is in large part the remnants of all of the people that have come and gone before us.

Now that's how to receive an award. Entertaining, affectionate piss-taking, and of course the appropriate nod to his wife. Even the political stuff mocking the President was hilarious. I sometimes got the impression they awarded Williams these gongs so that they could hear those hilarious acceptance speeches he invariably delivered. The rapidity of his jokes and quick-wittedness of them was and is always amazing. A true comic genius of the first order. Brilliance is however often a fleeting phenomenon. When his flame died we lost a very special person. The world is so much poorer for his absence from it.

Comedic actors are WAY better at Drama then dramatic actors are better at Comedy. And I think the reason why is that Comedy is insight into Drama. You can have Drama without Comedy, but not vice versa. I was the class clown, and everybody thought I was just oh so funny. Yeah, there's a reason why some choose comedy. It's necessary.

I think you're on the money. To provide a counterexample, Ian McKellen in that skit with Ricky Gervais about acting, Ian plays the part really well. It's funny, but to then counter again, maybe that's because it relies on his serious skills again (dry character humour?) in order to be funny, rather than wit? I do think, at that level, both get the skill of timing. But I agree that comedy teaches those skills sooner for it to work.
