I am shocked! Seriously! I just heard a solo vocalist sing an entire song without using riffs and runs and 'fluffy stuff' every phrase! I actually heard her SING! She is excellent! I have to add a new name to my list. I've heard OF her before, but never really paid attention because most vocalists these days rely on auto-tune and vocal 'fluff.' By 'fluff' I mean all the runs, and scoops, and other vocal effects and techniques. Those are fine in modest amounts. Katrina DOES do a bit of 'enhancements' in limited amounts... which ADDS to the performance. It's very rare these days to hear a really GOOD singer just SING!!! Outstanding!

not sure how your comment will go over, but here to say that i don't think criticism is a bad thing, unless it's coming from a place of negative intent, of which you most certainly did not intend for. katrina's signature style has typically incorporated a lot of acrobatics/agility, stamina/breath support/control, & insanely good mixed belting, but i also agree with you; it's nice to hear some more of what kat can offer, bc many are entirely unaware this woman is capable of just about anything vocally.

When I watched 'Over the Rainbow,' I immediately clicked.... and then fell out of love. She, like so many others, completely destroyed one of my favorite songs ever. I suppose that's what you mean by her 'signature style.' So... like Angelina Jordan, the excellent voice is overshadowed by what you called "acrobatics/agility.' This is obviously my opinion. Both artists are so popular that I suppose the majority LOVE all the fluff.

@@AudioVile Let me join your construct with @emelianemone777. You are right, both singers are capable, but I'd say in different ways. We all can haggle for hours at no end about who's better. However, I am absolutely certain it'll end up on one's preference. It's a non-zero-sum choice that produces a mutually non-beneficial outcome, as in "that singer is better than this singer" or vice versa, which is really subjective. Musical improvisation, e.g. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" sung by Katrina (live @ MusicHall MetroWalk) who covered Patti LaBelle's version of Judy G's original, is a matter of one expanding a choice of take if one is tolerant to musical versions. It's a good-natured musical compromise. I love Katrina's vocals and her rendition of "SomewhereOTR" because I am open to revision of songs. It shows a singer's creativity and ability as to how they respond to other musicians. Others hate an original song being musically and variably extemporized. A different version of an old song is NOT destroying that old song. It's giving it a new life. That's just my two pennies' worth. Anyway, Katrina Velarde's vocals and style of singing are NOT for everyone. This, I am absolutely certain. Some love their coffee black. I like mine with hazelnut cream.

Sa mga bashers ni Katrina Velarde - The Vocal Supreme na nag sasabi at pilit na ini-enforce sa atin na "tunog lata" kuno ang quality ng boses ni Katrina, well for your information her voice quality is piercing or sa tagalog po matinis, iba po yung tunog lata (clean you ears out!). Palibhasa kase di kayo nakikinig ng ibang singers kaya nagiging closed minded kayo. Yun din po yung natural weight ng boses niya. If you notice, when she belts, she has the same quality of a black vocalist, A PIRECING QUALITY!! (Such as Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Jennifer Hudson etc.) Mind you, it's rare na merong tayong FILIPINO Vocalist na kayang makipag sabayan sa mga black vocalist with their PIERCING and POWERFUL vocals. Hindi lahat kaya. Educate yourself, may youtube po, opo. Makinig din kau para malaman niyo ung difference.

Nag kakaiba nalng sa power or saang vocal placement siya na resonate.
