I got this color guide and found it very interesting! I was looking at the palettes and noticed that my skin was most harmonious with the semi-bright and warm over the muted and the bright palettes. I’m not sure how to categorise my coloring. Any thoughts?

@@Masi-vk5kz That's wonderful! Thank you for supporting my business! I would say that you're probably in the middle between warm and delicate and warm and radiant. In reality, it's a spectrum of warm to cool as I draw it in my videos, and the categories are more for ease of understanding. It could also be that gold doesn't look too separate from you, but just looks bright and vibrant (since you're semi-bright/semi-muted), rather than way too bright, would you say you're bright enough for that?
@Masi-vk5kz5 жыл бұрын
Merriam Style gold is a tricky one for me in terms of jewellery and makeup. I can wear clothing with gold accents, but I feel very aged with gold especially if it’s darker and rich. I prefer light yellow gold, but when I wear silver/white gold jewellery I feel a sense of relief. Not sure that makes sense! Even with rose gold I prefer if it’s a bright tone rather than a rich, red-brownish rose gold. I can also wear bronze as long as it’s not too coppery/terracotta or too taupe. Overall I would say my coloring is deep, warm with some brightness/clarity. The RGB of my undertone is about 251, 217, 181. I’ve been confused my entire life, which is why this video and your color guide really resonated with me! Thank you! And yes, overall yellow gold doesn’t look too separate on me. I just don’t like gold eyeshadow or highlighter.

@@Masi-vk5kz That's really interesting about the metals! I think I'd have to see some photos to make sense of it!! Maybe the brighter rose gold makes sense for you because you are semi-muted/semi-bright. The other ones may be too muted for you and drag you down--not sure, would have to see, but just a thought! Gold eyeshadow and highlighter are really for the very warm and radiant undertones!! I wonder if a champagne highlighter would be nice on you in that case.

I agree, and if you could include high vs low contrast as well that would be so great! I am delicate cool tone and high contrast myself and the usual season colour analysis that people use gives me some of the most horrible options for me like light cool pink, light cool blue and lilac etc when colours that suit me in reality are cool medium to dark blue, deep neutral red and black. The low contrast cool colours even make me look like I have a slightly warm undertone but with a grey tint, how does that work or what's the theory behind it? I don't think I've mistyped myself either because I definitely have a lot of pink in my skin and yellow, orange and even peach don't look good at all on me, then again neither does bright cool colours unless they are really dark and create a big contrast so I can get away with it.

This is really helpful! I always resolved that I was neutral, gold and silver both look good (though gold always did seem a little much sometimes), cooler colors not too bad, etc. but this makes a lot of sense. I have slightly olive skin and a little redness in the face, so it was hard to tell, but I definitely see a little bit of yellow cast to my skin in cooler colors. And I would say I always considered peach and corals to be good colors on me, icy pink not so much...You mentioned rose gold goes well with warm and delicate, and I noticed I am drawn to jewelry pieces that are mixed metals. I have some earrings with silver and gold that I really like, and a watch with a silver and gold band. I liked the versatility of them, but I think also it evens out the two metals. Champagne colors I found are also nice, as opposed to a gold shirt/dress. Thanks!

I just thought about this: if you have olive skin you're probably more likely to have a delicate undertone than a bright one. Why? green is a neutral, if you ad it to a skintone it "pulls" your tone towards neutral, even a warm or a cool green is still more close to neutral than the clear blue or yellow undertones of the bright skintones. What do you think?
@inesalmeida21995 жыл бұрын
I disagree. If we assume that the primary colours are red, yellow and blue, yellow being warm and blue being cool, then red will be neutral as well (just like green). The difference between olive skin tones and other skin tones is that olive skin tones have more green (yellow+blue) than other skin tones. This green can still be cool or warm, depending on how much blue or yellow is in it. The fact that a skin tone is olive has more to do with the proportion to red than the proportion between blue and yellow.
@fatoumfatoumeh5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I can see how a pale olive complexion could be delicate, as it has less pigment and is closer to neutral... but a more intense olive complexion would not. A more yellow olive would be obviously warm, and a deeper olive complexion (has more blue) would be obviously cool. Though the thing with olive skin is, it's such an intense undertone that they can get away with wearing either warm or cool, as long as the colors are rich or deep enough.

That’s what I was wondering. I’ve been told multiple times that I’m yellow, but I have olive skin. But depending on the time of year, my skin changes a lot. I get much darker in the summer and turn golden brown easily but in the winter, I get very pale and have rosacea. Due to this, I’ve also been mismatched as pink undertones in the winter but pink undertoned foundation looks terrible and unnatural on me, but the yellow foundations I’ve been matched with pull too yellow. Perhaps, I’m a delicate undertone?

Your skin tone videos are so helpful - this one, your "Mystical Undertone" video, and the "No Such Thing as a Neutral Undertone" videos are my favorites so far. I always used to be confused the idea of "undertones," thinking that I was supposed to figuring out whether my veins were blue or green, and never having any luck because they are bluish-green. Now I understand that "undertone" and "overtone" are misleading terms; the most important thing is simply the overall skin tone, period - whether it is warm or cool. I especially like the color chart you used in the "Neutral Undertones" video; it made it really clear how true neutral colors relate to the warm & cool colors, much clearer for me than the usual color wheel.

I think this warm and delicate might be my situation as well, not sure. I look nice in pale cool blues, but also in warm muted yellows and peaches, and I look ok with both silver and gold as long as they're not too silver or too gold. To this day I can't exactly determine my season because I'm somewhere in the middle in all aspects, I feel like I'm not too warm and not too cold, not too muted and not too bright, not too light and not too deep. But my best bet was neutral-warm, given that my natural brown hair has sort of golden or copper reflexions, same as my eyes. So based on this, my best guess is probably some sort of soft autumn.

Rita Sefraoui Tahiri that's what is hard, I'm uncertain. For example, I think I look good in blue-green, like Aqua, Turquoise, Robin's egg blue. Following this system, that makes sense: blue for cool, greenish because it's closer to the midpoint between blue and yellow. I mostly have silver toned jewelry, but that could be a style habit from my teens. I wear a lot of black - again, it's more a habit: dark hair, urban living and it's easy to find black clothing. But maybe black is properly one of my flattering colors? I'm usually told I look good in purple too, but it seems so bold to me that I only feel comfortable with it as an accent. I think I look good in red, again, like green it can be balanced between warm and cool. Also my skin is changing with age. There's sun damage, some hormonal acne scarring/discoloration and overall dullness. I'm working on giving it more care and like you I'm often given foundation that's too dark.

Thank you very much for your insight, dear. I have the so called "delicate and golden" overtone, and Seasonal Color Analysis just couldn't nail that down. IMO, the biggest drawback of the system is that it doesn't accommodate LIGHT and MUTED/SOFT hue TOGETHER (a.k.a. Neutral-Warm undertones) for warm undertones like it does for the cool undertone (Summer: Cool and Delicate (Light and Muted) or a Neutral-Cool undertone). Both seasons of warm undertones (Spring: Light, Warm and Bright) and (Autumn: Deep, Warm, Muted). Either way, the combinations just gives in downright yellow undertones on both ends of the spectrum, neutral-warm undertones are inexistent in the system! This is exactly why I ended up testing as Cool-undertoned yet still look a wee bit more yellowish sometimes with my season's colors. I often get away with clothing due to the borderline neutral undertone I have like you said, but makeup is a real deal-breaker. Winter makeup pallette overpowers me. Both Spring and Autumn ones look separate on me, the closest that I can wear would be the Summer pallette, but not entirely or it looks slightly separate too. Now I know why I often need to mix up colors to make my own hues and shades of makeup, while it's just a fun option to try for others around me. But it's really true that this undertone is often mistyped as Cool, as the only category that fit the more neutral, both muted and light chroma is only available under the Summer pallette, which is under the Cool category. Most probably, anyone with a light but muted coloring is just sorted as Cool-undertoned, even if they aren't! (Btw both Clarke and Blanchett are prototypes of the Summer category).

The only time I think overtones are accurate is if they’re caused by a health or skin issue. I have rosacea and I’m constantly flushed due to a chronic illness and people always match me to these ultra pink foundations that look awful on me. I’ve discovered that I have slightly yellow undertones, but my overtones are red/pink.
@Pr0fessorScience5 жыл бұрын
Same! I also have rosacea and a chronic illness that can sometimes cause flushing, and I've given up on trying to get foundation matched cause they always focus on matching it to my face and throat - like, hello, those are the parts that will be covered by foundation so match it to everything other than those areas, please.
@escobarines5 жыл бұрын
I can totally relate to this... Discussing undertones with a friend, I was saying how even if I'm pale, I would generally gravitate towards slightly warmer or neutral with some warmth mixed in foundations. And she says, well, I think you're more like hm red😬? (probably because I have redness around the center of my face sometimes, like on my nose). Boy was I facepalming internally! Same as matching me to the eczema on my hands, that's just not how it works!

Hello. Have you found a foundation that matches your skin? I have rosacea too and every foundation I have tried looks separate from me. Thank you.

Try matching to chest or collar bone then?

I’m starting to think I’m warm and delicate. I was colour typed years ago as a bright spring, but I’m not sure that bright colours are quite me. Although some sites wouid have you believe that bright spring colours are really in your face, yet others make them look more forgiving. I have had the ‘I love your pink trousers’ comment rather than ‘you do look nice’, so that tells me my fuschia trousers are too ‘much’. I think I’m neutral warm. If I wear light blue I look more yellow. A lightish yellow doesn’t seem to look too bad. Too dark doesn’t do much, to neon / intense doesn’t do much. Greyed colours don’t do much. I feel like I need clear, but not bright. I tried the lipstick recommendations for bright spring. They both wore me, but one was too orange and the other just wore me. I’ve tried patting the lip copies on like a stain. The orange red looked better as a delicate stain than the pink red. The pink red looked too pink on me. So I think I’m warm. 🤦🏻♀️ it’s not easy.

Great Video 👏. Thats pretty much my finding after a long time searching my best colors as a person with a nearly neutral undertone (very very hard to say warm or cool) - that colors they’re also nearly neutral really suits me by far the best. It’s actually not so important if the are warm neutral or cool neutral, as long they are nearly neutral it’s better than warmer or cooler colors.

I have blue eyes, so I was always being put in blues, growing up. But it's the weirdest thing. Oversaturated cool tones (blue especially) give my skin a distinctly orange cast. But when I desaturate them, a lot of cooler colors (especially greys and purples) make my skin look grey and sickly, too. I always had to lean pretty heavily on coppers and browns in my makeup, too. My best colors are greens (ranging from earthy yellow-green to very neutral teals) and pinks (especially with brown undertones) - even shades of terra cotta! Rose gold is by far the nicest metal on me. I also really look good in warm brown, but that is always attributed to my hair, and I've always been told to ignore it. I've also been told many times (by people who are warmer than I am) that I am "too pink" to be warm, never mind that pink is not yellow and looking orange is not a thing that cool skin is supposed to do, when paired with blue. At any rate, I'm obviously somewhere in the borderlands, and this is really helpful for me - especially given all the outside pressure I'm getting from others.

I’m the opposite way - was told I’m warm and delicate by someone else but cool and delicate by Merriam. This video was still helpful for me too! The graph visual helped me see how gold is farther from warm and delicate than silver so someone could get mistyped. I’m curious to test antique silver and rose gold on myself.

This seems like it’s probably me. Definitely delicate, but not exactly muted or grayed out. I put a rose gold color on and it’s almost exactly my skin tone.

My overtone is quite yellow/golden and recently got typed as a dark winter but I find the colours too saturated and I also love rose gold on me. This is making me think I might be a different type maybe a warm and delicate! Thank you :)

Nice video! I think it goes well with your other video on skin pigments to help discern muted types. I’m Cool & Muted all year & reflect grayish against my friends in photos which I think emphasizes that I’m Cool & Muted. (I’m learning so much from u!) It’s almost like there is a spectrum of Pale & Muted LOL In winter I’m definitely more toward that neutral line which now makes sense why I can wear such pale cool colors! But when I get a lot of sun, I’m still Cool & Muted, but the extra color I get allows me to wear “a little brighter” cool tones like grape, turquoise or neon pink. Keep it up beautiful lady! 👩🏻🌸💜👏🏼

This is it! This explains why I detest shiny silver and gold. I can only wear matte or antique silver and gold and I didn’t know why. I think I’m neutral and soft. Is that why I don’t like rose gold? I feel good in soft pink clothing though.

You are just incredible, thank you for this, this like the other ladies, has been my ongoing struggle. I’ve done the gold versus silver jewelry test with many people, and literally get half saying I look best in the gold and the other half prefer the silver on me! Thank you for this!

This is very interesting. My skin is almost exactly rose gold colored and i never wear it because i thought it disappeared on me. I usually wear bold saturated colors. I might need to try on some more peachy colors and see how they look.

THANK YOU! This is why I've been so confused all this time. I've got that light skin, blonde hair, blue eyes, and my lashes and brows have no warmth, seems like I'd be cool. But in photos you can see my skin has a faint yellow tint, even in winter. I had the makeup counter ladies fighting over my correct foundation color, so no wonder I could never figure it out. This explains it so well, and with this and some of your other videos, I draped myself and am going all in with Warm and Delicate.

I've been rewatching a lot of this and the cool pink vs peach is A STANDOUT I remember as a teen, I ended up with 2 different articles of clothing that were these cool, dull pinks, and I couldn't wear them bc they made me look dead. As soon as I bleached them (they both lifted to a pastel peachy pink) I LOVED how I felt in them I am very drawn to saturated cool pinks, but as long as they're not too close to my face, I manage

Hi Miriam! Do you have any insight into how two-tone jewelry (silver and gold) looks on different skin tones? From watching your videos, I think I am definitely a warm-delicate, and I never wear silver jewelry exclusively, almost always lean towards gold. However, I love wearing both gold and silver together (I would just never wear silver without the gold). I wonder if this is because the combination of the two balances out to more neutral?
@Oliiia3 жыл бұрын
Since natural skin and hair colours are so complicated just a few types can wear bright colours. Most of the people will look better in sophisticated muted colours and just some peeps with high contrast between hair, eyes and skin colour can go for brighter ones.
@JordanJSparks3 жыл бұрын
why would the image on the right be so far on the warm side? It looks pea green to me rather than a true gold, so wouldn't that blue in the pigment bring it WAAAY closer to neutral? It doesn't look like a warm yellow to me at all.
@alicec.61952 жыл бұрын
I feel like I am one of these cases! What you said in this video makes so much sense, we are in one of the sides but very close to neutral and I will try the test with antique silver x rose gold.

That was really well explained, thank you! I’m pretty sure I’m warm and delicate; I’ve always considered myself neutral, leaning warm. I have a terracotta orange dress that I love, and rose-gold is my favourite jewellery colour (although silver doesn’t look terrible).

I was just - again(!) - getting annoyed that I don’t seem to fit in to any og the classic seasonal catogories. I have very dark hair and eyebrows with very light skin and my veins seem to come off blue - so I must be some sort of winter, right? However, my eyes are a very warm golden-green hazel, I have light orange-y freckles and until I was about 4 my hair was a mostly red-ish copper brown - so some sort of autumn, then…right? I look ok in some blue colors - horrid in others, I look ok in most yellow colors - not so great in others. I look good in most greens, and most reds - apart from more cool purple-y reds. The gold vs. silver test has reveiled nothing to me. The “check out your veins” test has had me confused - shouldn’t I have looked great in that ducks egg blue dress I bought rather than give me that all over sickly yellow cast that the pictures later reveiled? I was beginning to think that I was some sort of color inept. Now, having watched this video I think maybe not, maybe I’m just a Warm and Delicate. A few weeks ago I bought a cheap gold colored ring. It looked ok on my hand but now that the gold has more or less worn off and the coppery brass is showing through it looks better. Thank you for making and posting this video!

That explains so much why I find my best jewellery colour is rose gold (imho), but silver and/or gold doesn't look too bad, so long as they're not too yellow of a gold or too bright of a silver. My friends often say I look good in peach, but not convinced I can pull off orange.

This was quite informative- in my case - turquoise , sea green etc look gorgeous on me but any hue of yellow, rust or beige accentuate the shadows and yellow spots of my eye corners. Very cold blues like cobalt look separate but brigth blue works well. Very ligth lavender brings ligth to my face and also very ligth pink. Ligth blue looks ok but not as good as baby pink or lavender. When it comes to greys they have to be deep and crisp- white has to be sligthly more off white than optic so at this point- Im nit even focusing on a specific season to follow
