The golden ratio is not 1.6 it closer to 1.618 and consecutive numbers in the Fibonacci sequence do not give the golden ratio however the limit of the sequence is the golden ratio. It's use in art and design is way over stated and forced to appear in many cases.

As far as the spiral goes I can't help simplify that though. With straight lines it's always y x 1.6= your second measurement

Love your video. My addition of fun facts: 1. The ratio is actually an irrational number (like pi for example). I love the idea that so much, perhaps everything, is based on an irrational number! 2. The two most popular film formats, past and present, are very close to the Golden Ratio: 35mm (still and film) is 1:1.5, which is actually "rational". And 16:9 in video/film, is 1:1.7 (actually irrational). 3. There used to be a quirky band called the Fibonaccis. I won't comment on whether they were rational or irrational. They probably won't either.

I tried to look up if anyone else has applied the golden ratio to garden design as three years ago I started my first allotment - designing it with the golden ratio :-) now I need to refresh as technical glitches (digging up 1/3 plot covered in random paving slabs a spade depth down etc ; not finished on last section…) hence going to remeasure and check planting and paths. I think it’s fab to follow this natural design. We may not comprehend why, but I think it helps. And I thing my newts slow worms and lizards love it too . The further towards the tips of the pine tree, the more perfect the geometry becomes. The pine grows in double spirals Fibonacci style, One spiral angled at 1 and one spiral the opposite direction at 1.6. Where ever they cross, a needle grows.

From the Introduction of the book "Liber Abaci" written by Fibannacci himself: 1) "I am the son of an official working in Bugia, Algeria". 2) There was a colony of Indian Merchants in that city. 3) "It was there that I was introduced to Indian Mathematics". Fibonacci further says- " I loved Indian Mathematics to such an extent above all others that I completely devoted myself to it" "I was also introduced to Greek, Arabic & Egyptian Math" "But I found ALL of them, EVEN Pythagoras, to be erroneous compared to Indian Mathematics" Fibonacci further says: "For this reason, basing my book COMPLETELY on Indian methods and applying myself with greatest attention to it, but not without adding something of my own thought, I forced myself to compose this book. I demonstrated everything with proof" Finally, Fibonacci says: " In my book, I have published the doctrine of Mathematics completely according to the Method of Indians. I have COMPLETELY adopted the (Mathematical) Method of Indians because it is the MOST effective" In his book, Fibonacci does NOT refer to #Fibonacci Series as "Fibonacci Series" Rather, he simply calls it "Indian Series". @@curtcrowley6659 No ! 6 to 5 would be 1.2 to 1; it's 1.618..etc......to 1/ or over 1 ! Simple way to conceptualize ! Draw a Pentagon, now construct a Pentacle inside it, the kind the Witches use ! Take the longer side of the Pentacle, align (view) it along the shorter side of the Pentagon ... and voila you have that Phi ratio !

Speaking of a symPHOny the golden ratio in the musical scale is the Perfect 5th. We even say Phi in Five like Phive. 1plus the square root of 5 over 2. The significance of this is the fact that the dominant note of the whole scale is the Perfect 5th. It's the second most stable next to the root. This is why we call it a Power Chord. Every single chord contains the the root and 5th it's the basis of every chord except diminished chords. In western music, which is mostly written in Major, we omit the 7th scale degree as a chord because it's diminished and contains the tritone which is also known as the Devils interval. It's the same numbers in the number of spirals in pine cones and pineapples. It's even why we called them Adam and Eve for A-E or the symbol Æ but that's another long story. Let's just say it's the evidence for creation. God.

Most good designers and artists purposely use this ratio all over in their work, but in spite of that, in my own experience with art composition, this ratio seems to be hard-wired into our DNA. I was in an extended KZbin conversation with a gentleman who described himself as the "Logical Atheist" and finally asked him if he "believed design exists in nature" to which he replied " absolutely not, no one has met their burden of proof and none can provide any non fallacious evidence... what we see in nature formed naturally". I then asked him about the Fibonacci sequence and Golden Ratio to which he replied that he had "no comment" as it had "nothing to do with our conversation". I was quite puzzled by his curt response.

I’m.a graphic designer and I’ve taken the golden spiral and overlaid it on top of many different real life spirals that occur in nature. Not one lines up with the golden spiral. The golden spiral is made up of many different quarter circles and that is not how a natural spiral is done. When I have overlaid them they are immediately off from one another. Most commonly (1, 1), but as I said, any pair works the same way. So, for (1, 1) as initial pair, the series will be: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34... Now, when the series goes to infinity, the ratio between two consecutive numbers will be phi: 5/3=1.666, 8/5=1.6, 13/8=1.625, 21/13=1.61538... But really mindblowing is the fact that any initial pair will lead to the same result, phi. Try with (5, 6), or (11, 3) or (78, 2015), doesn't matter. If you have some computer programming knowledge, check it out.

Honestly. I stopped watching at 5:55 and read some comments. I got curious and then divided the total video time of 9:45 by 5:55. You have to convert to seconds because minutes arent base ten. If you’ve somehow convinced yourself that a certain proportion is beautiful, then that’s on you, but there is no scientific evidence tying this particular proportion to “beauty” (which is obviously not a scientific term). So really, the ratio blows your mind and you love it, and that’s awesome, but it has nothing a priori to do with beauty.

These items we have accepted as a standard for what we perceive to be beautiful or attractive. Granted the human mind likes what it likes and some are not either matching the golden mean to their aspect of perfect nor inclined to use the mean to create their art, and that is not a fault or problem. Art is subjective. My point is that when something is not proportional or is intentionally misaligned then it tends to be a minor shock to the perception most people have, and that can be a feature of the art created, as art is supposed to evoke emotion, both in the creator and the viewer. You seem angry about this, and I hope I'm wrong. Left brain vs right brain shouldn't cause anger but instead invoke interest. Cheers!

@@chrismaggio7879 I’m not angry and I apologize if I came off that way. My background is in physics, and all through my PhD process I did a lot of teaching. I have to admit that it is kind of annoying when science topics are presented to the public in misleading ways. I read a book by Mario Livio years ago called “The Golden Ratio” and it was eye opening. He makes a very strong case against what you and I are discussing. He shows that “number juggling” can be used to make pretty much anything look like it has the golden ratio built in. The ratio itself is about self-similarity, which is something we see in nature, but it’s one of countless patterns. In my opinion, it’s great to appreciate the golden ratio for what it is, but it’s almost an insult to Nature to put this one simple number on such a pedestal.

Probably you just consider important parts to be long and likely to fit somewhere just after the half which is logical.
