Savage Flies

Maybe a nymph or soft hackle wet fly, or maybe both. I plan to fish this primarily as a nymph but it should be effective on the swing as well.
Hook: #12-16 long shank, curved
Thread: Yellow
Tail: Brown goose biots
Rib: Copper wire
Body: Yellow wool dubbing
Thorax: Brown rabbit dubbing
Collar: Brown partridge

Good job Matt a tiny ball of dubbing where you firs tie in the biots will force them to separate every time my friend. Have a great fishing trip ...enjoy

Split biot tails always remind me of a stonefly. The soft hackle gives it a bit of a different look. (Especially when wet). Love that!!!

I've never seen that style of tying with the biots being used as tails and back. Thanks for showing this technique, looks good.

Good morning Matt. Friday morning ☕️time with your video. Hopefully while I’m watching you’re in a stream somewhere in the Smokies enjoying the day. Nice pattern this morning. Be interested in hearing how these worked upon your return. Video evidence would be enjoyed 😁. Hope your trip is going exceedingly well and that you have a safe return trip. Take care Matt.

One trick on the split Biot tail is to do a SMALL spot of dubbing behind everything. That’ll help in separating the tail as well as prevent any wire slippage.

Another nice one Matt. Don't know if there's any variations available on this one except maybe a little change in shades of the materials for the particular water you are on. Keep the good stuff coming buddy and good luck in the Smokies.

Nice one Matt. It reminds me of Sanchez's Biot Bug... hey you tied the Biot Bug last year This is an awesome🪨🪰 nymph/wet/tasty bug variation 👍It should slay no matter where you fish it. Hope all is well and you had a great trip. Thanks Matt!

I really like this new pattern Matt. I think it's going to be a winner. Just a thought; perhaps a small dab of UV resin would keep the biots splayed. Cheers.

Matt, just a suggestion.I have used curved shank hooks by different manufacturers but have found that the 200R from Tiemco to be the best.Main reason is that the gap is wider on them than any other brand. This pattern can be fished any way you want.

If you this make this design with black biots for the tail $ along the body, plus black dubbing for the thorax in larger size hooks, it would be a dandy for the stoneflies in in Mass. & the Penobscot in Maine. I do have concerns about what looks like a narrow gape on that hook though. Otherwise, good one Matt. Raise your rod on your trip & enjoy!

Another tie that looks to be one you will use on the trip. I hope to see a possible review of the Smokies trip and what you used to catch the trout once on sight. Are you taking any "Yallerhammer" nymphs or dries? Good luck on the trip and have a wonderful time!

Morning Matt. These quick tie flies are fun. I bet you have a box or two full by now. Question. Do you take that much variety on the water with you? I find that I take about 3 to 4 types. I just would like to get your input. Have a wonderful trip.

Would a thread hump at the base of the fly help the biots to splay out a bit better?
