This is my most favorite fishing video! I've been trying to reach this lake for 8 years. I've made several trips into the lakes immediately below it, but altitude sickness has always limited me from going further. Next time, I'll spend a day or two acclimating with day hikes into the basin then the backpack. I've been to the "basecamp lake" 3 times, most recently in 2020 and 2021. It has finicky Cutts that can get big.

The color in fades, music, and feel are great. Fantastic trip and vid. Three times in the Winds; no goldens yet... Hope springs eternal.

Just fantastic ...... I've dreamed of Goldens my whole life, and just knowing they are still there makes it all worth while. Thanks much for sharing your adventure.

Wall lake!
@chouyi0077 жыл бұрын
Nah, too round, not enough vegetation, and too high (if he is telling the truth about the elevation) to be Wall. I'm surprised that a lake that high would have such a good population of decent-sized fish, and I would be even more surprised if there were natural reproduction there. The better fish usually come from lakes closer to the 10,500' mark. Most of the really high ones don't have enough moving water for spawning, and have to be stocked.
@jedsmith49886 жыл бұрын
Agree with Joseph. Definitely not Wall. Doesn't match size or range profile. I would have guessed somewhere out from Lander from landscape and trail, but 11.5K is too high, though he's not far off! Finally recognized it from some features and shot down that canyon. This year the fish out of that lake were mostly small according to reports. Spot on with the timing. I've been going in mid/late September to known golden lakes (including Wall) for years now and have yet to even see one!

I'm tempted to say the name but since they didn't I won't either. It's a good golden lake but there are better ones in that general area
@tcgoggans5 жыл бұрын
@@chouyi007 I didn't recognize this lake as any of the the ones I knew of that sat at 11.5k, and so I searched topos of the entire range and can't find ANY lake of that size and shape with a glacier at its head. I'm wondering if he got the elevation wrong.
@chouyi0075 жыл бұрын
@@tcgoggans Yep, he put the wrong elevation, butI don't blame him one it; the only name by which that lake and many other good ones are officially known is the number of its altitude in feet! As I don't wish to post identifying information of that lake or the other great ones near it in a public forum, I won't disclose its actual elevation, but I can say it is lower than 11,500', and the Goldens do actually naturally reproduce in there; no lakes in that drainage have been stocked since the original planting of Goldens in the 1930s.

Looks T-Lake to me?

After some extensive google earthing, you're right. Snow patch patterns which are pretty consistent year to year, are the giveaway. I'll be in the Dennis and Louise Lk area next week - hoping for some gold!

@@helopicture Good luck! Only fished a few hours late Sept in that drainage and came up dry. Headed out in 2 weeks. Will fish drainage to the south of those in this video, including one at 11k'. Then to northern winds

@@jedsmith4988 Golden, Upper Golden? Love the Winds, and won't consider it a failure if we don't catch some Goldens... would be nice though. Good luck on your trip.
