I have seen this deck here and there. The gold foil makes it look so gorgeous.

Are colors important in reading Tarot? Honestly, I printed Tarot cards on cardboard. They became Tarot cards, but without colors, only in white, black and gray. Are my readings on the non-colored cards correct ??😔

Oh! and just another note: The little book with the premium edition points out that the red on the man in the 10 of Swords is not blood but his cloak.

Have had this deck for a long while, really like it. Think it is underrated by the tarot scene. Have the standard Universal tarot as well so glad you showed this deck. The original Universal tarot is circa 2001 or 2003 pub. Lo Scarabeo.

You and I may be alone in this view, however! I think a lot of folks just don't get on with the aesthetic...

the foil does not peel, every deck have these holes in the foil

Lo Scarabeo mentions in a video here advertising this deck that the gold leafing was chipped on purpose to reproduce the look of well-used cards from the Renaissance(?) era.

That's very interesting. I started to suspect as much. Thanks so much for watching and for commenting! xo

Thanks a lot.. I was about to buy the golden deck., but the imagery is not pure. Can you please suggest a deck which resembles the original raider white.. Thanks

I need a shiny gold deck. Most of my decks just have a dull matte finish.

This deck has been on my maybe list for quite some time. I must admit that I'm a sucker for some bling and I love how it popped after you edged it 😩. I might be putting it on my actual wishlist now. Also, I truly enjoyed your humor 😁.

I dont think the gold foil was peeling, i had that deck and it was done the same. I traded it, i couldnt get past some of the bad proportions on a few. I wont say which ones as i dont want you to be swayed. Im glad you like it.
@MindfulTarot7 жыл бұрын
Interesting about the foil! - Thanks for watching and writing. I think I probably already have noticed some of the proportion issue you mention... but it's not bothering me (yet!) xoxo

YES, the chisel tip connection! However, I just decided I couldn't be bothered with this one. The gold chipping off...just broke the magic for me. I'll try with the Klimpt.

Congrats on your book contract Lisa 😀😎 Apart from the bling - gotta love some bling - I am not feeling the love for this deck. The illustration style feels insincere to me lol! I'll be interested to hear how you feel about the changes and additions to the deck once you have played with it a while. And, yeah edging is such a bonding experience!
@MindfulTarot7 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting perspective on the artwork - that it feels insincere. I've done a few small card pulls from it, and I'm actually enjoying its voice... but I think that's because I keep identifying the art style with the kind of graphic illustration style I associate with my time in Italy (when I used to practice my Italian by reading comic books like Dylan Dog and Julia)...

I love your sensitivity and depth. Great presentation; however, because the foil would peel and detract from my enjoyment of the deck.

I loved your "goofy ramble" about this deck and I laughed out loud with your description of the kings leaning forward. I have to say that I really like the more intense expressions and subtle changes in this deck which make it unique. For me, every deck has a personality and although the book meanings of the cards may be the same they don't read the same for me from deck to deck. I accept and enjoy the different voices of my decks just as I do friends and when I became aware of that is when I felt I was really able to read in a way that's meaningful. I know what you mean about the ritual of blacking the edges of a deck and with that becoming more bonded like getting to know someone new. I was doing my own copy of this deck while listening to your video and giggled when at the end took back some of your negatives. Initially and under bright light, it was hard to appreciate the colors with all the gold glare, but now to me, they stand out. Oh and I've seen at least a dozen copies of this deck that all have gilding missing in exactly the same places so it's either intentional or a run of them that have the same defect. Either way I can see people in the future scouring Ebay for copies of this deck with these differences. LOL Thank you for your video.

I love this video. You are so funny! I am on the fence about this deck. If its bling is going to flake off, I might sparingly use it or just for spell work. There are some illustrations I really like but other design choices I find are just very odd, like some of the meaning is sacrificed for a dynamic angle. As an illustrator, I get it. But as a reader, it'd take some getting used to. I typically like LS decks though so I'll come back later to see if I've come around to it. But since you edged the deck it turned out super nice!! So much to consider. Thanks so much for your impressions!

Strangely, I have had this a few months and one of my first videos was an unboxing and flip through of this deck, that said I didn't use it much as it seemed too far removed from the actual original RWS, if that makes sense? Almost like a bootleg copy. That said it's a nice deck though, I also read somewhere that the gold chopping is meant to chip of easily to appear aged, not too convinced by that though 😉
@MindfulTarot7 жыл бұрын
I hear ya! Well, it essentially is a bit of a bootleg: an effort for LS to have its own RWS deck... something that would be "universal"... Interesting about the gold foil. I think it may indeed all be intentional.

Youre way off about the spelling of TORA, in Italian it is TORA hence this is an Italian deck...btw Tarot is part of ITALIAN culture...it was developed there...

As I was watching the "first impressions" segment, I found myself thinking, "I don't mind some variety from the original RWS imagery to get different nuances of meaning." And I actually like that the kings look more engaged. I'm still fairly new to tarot but have to say, when I studied the RWS court cards last year, I remember thinking the kings looked kind of bored and un-kingly. But I'm still not sure what to make of this deck's manly pages and boyish knights..... Have you used the deck much since you got it? What are your impressions now? I think I will get it after watching your review.

Nice video review. Love the in depth walkthrough that you provided. Can I just ask though. What is the app on your phone that has the Rider Waite Smith deck in nice resolution? Been looking for ages. Thank you and God Bless

Hi Brenden! Thanks so much for stopping by, and I'm glad you found the review useful. The app I use and adore is put out by the Fool's Dog folks. I've got it on iOS; I'm thinking they also have it available in an Android version. If you search for "Fool's Dog" you'll see their whole amazing catalog of tarot apps. There are a few dozen at this point!

This was my first practical deck that I used several times per week for 3 years (my first official deck was an extra large copy of the Marsielle, which was too difficult to shuffle so it's been collecting dust since I first got it). A lot of the foil has worn off to reveal the white card stock underneath, so it's not exactly an antique "aged" look. But I do love it, still.

Sorry but I don't like the expressions in this deck, and yes does make a big difference. So I would go with the other one that's similar to this one...
