Damn, this all makes me remember three things. First of all, Goldeneye, the movie, truly was a breath of fresh air for the James Bond franchise. Today I consider Brosnan as one of the best Bonds ever. I think the best Bond movies involved a more personal storyline. Secondly, Goldeneye for N64 was perhaps the best shooter ever, prior to the online multiplayer FPS era we now know. And finally... Glad I only rented Goldeneye Reloaded on the ps3. It's nothing more than a re-skinned COD game with a Bond setting (not hating on Daniel Craig, but I grew up with Brosnon as Bond), not to mention the awful voice acting. Again, I am NOT hating on Daniel Craig, but whoever cast Alec's VA needs to have their head examined, hell whoever allowed the game to be reimagined like that needs to be head-examined. I'd have just settled for a remastered Goldeneye64 as a download on xbox live, but nooooooo, legal shit gets in the way and blows it all to hell.

AFAIK they had to Danielize it because of rights issues; Brosnan was no longer Bond and they would have had to separately acquire the rights. It's why "All Bonds" mode couldn't be done for the N64 version.

but guys, this still begs the question of WHY Alec decided to fake his death now. The GE Facility scene was set 9 years before the events of the GE movie's present (1995-9 years= 1986) and considering that the reason Alec betrayed Bond and the MI6 was because he wanted some recompense for the British betrayal of the Lienz Cossacks, and so he was doing this his whole life by assisting the British government against the Soviet Union, WHICH FALLS IN 1991. So with Alec still having a purpose to stick with MI6 for now, what would be the reason for him to take his death now? How would he have the foresight to see the quick hastening end of the USSR? How did he organise this fake death with Ouromov, without his friend James knowing or the MI6 having any record?

MI6 was completely fooled, as was Bond. One thing is that the current Russian government is the legal successor to the USSR, so all debts/obligations/treaties held by the USSR were transferred to Russia. As Jaegar said, his real beef was with the UK, not Russia.

The videos for Goldeneye just make it look like a DLC Map mod for Call of Duty. Same dark brown look to everything, same annoying wobbly shakey cam, same schitzophrenic 'omg we've gone 5 minutes without an explosion we gotta blow shit up' feel. Which I HATE about all modern shooters. I'm happy sticking with Goldeneye N64, Medal of Honor for PS1 and Half-Life 2 for PC. Still my 3 favourite FPS games :)

My main gripe with the 360 version wasn't that it wasn't the same as the N64 game, obviously that wouldn't have been practical, but they could have at least stuck to the movie. Could have at least visited the same places, with similar goals, and had the characters look/sound like they did in the movie.

Six minutes was originally going to give the two of them time to escape the facility before the timers blew up the tanks, releasing the toxins within them. When they were discovered and the alarm raised, that plan was shot to hell, and with Alec assumed dead and potentially no other avenue of escape possible, Bond decided to take his chances and made the snap decision to change detonation time to 3 minutes instead -- any longer, and the odds of the bombs on the tanks being discovered and diffused, resulting in the the total failure of their mission, would have been much higher.

GoldenEye for the Wii has been heavily altered from the 1995 motion picture. Zukovsky dies in the Wii game when Xenia takes my gun, shoots Zukovsky with it and frames me. (Zukovsky dies in "The World Is Not Enough") I get arrested after rescuing Natalya at Severnaya. (Bond and Natalya first meet after getting arrested at the statue park) No Jack Wade or Boris Grishenko.

I thought the Wii version wasn't too bad. Don't get me wrong, I will always hold the N64 version above it, but you have to give credit where it's due. Yeah, they changed up the storyline and really altered the levels (and added new ones), but I find that refreshing as it means the levels are NOT the same as before. My only problem with it is how it ended up being a bit too much like COD. Should've kept the health bar/armor :-/
