To quote Grant Kirkhope from an e-mail I sent him: "Yeah, the tunes I put up were the first pieces I wrote for GoldenEye. They're versions I did before I had to compress them all and re-sample and loop the instruments to get them into the tiny memory space that the N64 had."

OHMSS 00 Agent: James Bond Mission 4: Monte Carlo Part i: Frigate PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: a. Rescue hostages b. Disarm bridge bomb c. Disarm engine room bomb d. Plant tracking bug on helicopter BACKGROUND: A demonstration of the Pirate stealth helicopter by the French military has been unexpectedly postponed. Official channels insist that nothing is wrong but unofficially MI6 has been asked to help salvage a very tricky hostage situation on board the frigate La Fayette. It seems that the Janus crime syndicate will stop at nothing in its attempt to hijack the helicopter. M BRIEFING: This is the best chance we've had in years to get a lead on Janus. The French are prepared to play along with an entrapment scenario. We need you to place a tracker on the Pirate so that we can trace its movements after Janus steals it. This must go smoothly, 007. If the press gets a sniff of this, we'll all have egg on our faces. Q BRANCH: The French have kindly given us the technical details of the Pirate so I've have managed to convert this tracker bug into quite a cleaver little chap. It's undetectable and it locks out all weapon firing commands. Janus is also threatening to blow up the ship. They are most likely to have placed explosives on the bridge and in the engine room. Take care, 007, and be curtain to use the bomb defuser correctly. MONEYPENNY: Xenia Onatopp, one of Janus' main operatives, may be on board the La Fayette. They say she's has thighs of steel, James. Just be sure to stay out of there grasp. START

I mean, all game music is compressed, but this is back when it was much more highly compressed, in this case going from PC software exporting to CD quality MIDI, but the N64 is completely incapable of doing that so they had to squish it all down to work properly ;)

Good way to avoid them potentially not being able to enjoy the good old games, not appreciating how far performance has developed and how far they’ll continue to advance, but also not realizing not getting the lesson that high performance doesn’t mean good gameplay ideas old games used to be fun, games today are stagnant ideas with flashy graphics most of the budget got wasted on, there’s no hope for things to change if nobody remembers it wasn’t always like this and can be different, so this is a commendable endeavor

It's not that, Nintendo cancelled the game because they were afraid that everyone would by the XBLA version and not the Wii version, look it up Nintendo, Rare, and Activision (who had the Bond License at the tiem) all agreed to make the game, just Nintendo cancelled because they were afraid of no one buying the Wii copy plus the XBox Live Arcade version was going to be the better one anyways.

If they do remake it I'd want it to get on Wii U and XBLA, like how it was going to be on Wii and XBLA but was cancelled by Nintendo since they knew the Wii wouldn't come to par with the XBLA version. It'd get a lot of Wii U sells if it was on it for a year before being released on XBLA, exactly like they did with Reloaded.

Hey don't get me wrong, I still love GoldenEye, but it's really not the masterpiece everyone thinks it is. For years I always agreed that Ocarina of Time was the best Zelda game/best game ever made, but then I eventually rediscovered Majora's Mask and realized that OoT isn't really as perfect as I thought. All you need is an outside perspective to notice that not everything you grew up playing was great. Take Chameleon Twist 2 for example. It's terrible, but I always thought it was great.

Yes I understand this is how it was meant to sound. I was basically saying this one ended up not changing too drastically when you compare it to the 64 version.

I will gladly take uncompressed game music from the 90's over flashy hollywood orchestras for todays AAA titles.

K first of all, Rare had nothing to do with it not re-releasing. It was the movie to game rights that people were trying to acquire and figure out who the hell actually owned them. In the end, Activision bought them, and that's why the new GoldenEye game exists. Second, looking back at it, GoldenEye really isn't that good of a shooter. It hasn't aged well at all. The only reason everyone still considers it so good is that they haven't taken off their nostalgiavision goggles yet.
