A video series playlist where you go through step by step process of making a batch of mead would go a long way to helping beginners get the hang of it. Starting with properly sanitizing, measuring the honey, water etc, all the way to bottling the batch.

The part that frightens me the most right now with my first try is correct sanitisation. I live in Germany and have recently got a basic starter kit of yours. I saw a bunch of other guides telling me to just steam boil all of the equipment. In the US you use Starsan mostly, as I have come to know from some other sources. Are there other sanitizers that I could use and you would recommend? Would you make a instruction video about how to correctly sanitize all my equipment? Love your channel and ideas. I've been waiting to try this out myself for so long! 😊

Sag mal, wie war das mit versand- und zollkosten? Das hält mich gerade noch etwas davon ab.
@LordHelmchen1903 ай бұрын

Didn’t suck. I do kinda wish you would have gone into sanitizing the equipment before you start making things for fermentation, and what you would recommend for that process.
@Ottawajames4 ай бұрын
StarSan is a food safe, no rinse sanitizer. Spray it on the things and Bob's your uncle.... You can really use anything though, even bleach or isopropyl alcohol over 70%, as long as you make sure to rinse it well enough before using.
@trouty7947Ай бұрын
From my understanding, it would need to be specially sealed to make sure it *stays* sterile during storage and shipping, so if you don't need it to be absolutely sterile, you might as well just clean it yourself when you get as it won't stay sanitised during storage

Im not currently under circumstances that allow for me to make mead/wine/alcoholic beverages, However this seems so fun. The idea of making drinks for a friend or family members wedding, or watching the flavor evolve and receive the fruitage of your hard work. Overall, the process seems to be relatively easy once it is prepared and put into a jar. I love this channel and hope it continues to flourish due to how unique this channel is. Thank you for creating golden hive, it is so wonderful to watch the creation you make, from soda alcohol to meads filled with berries.

I wish I could afford your kit because I have never tasted nor made mead before and would just love to try it out. However, as a disabled US Air Force Veteran, I don’t have an income and I can’t work. The VA does give me my healthcare along with Medicaid in Idaho as well as food stamps, and section 8 housing for veterans called HUD VASH. But they only provide me around $320-ish per month, which mostly covers my electric and water bills. So with nothing leftover I just can’t afford anything like the kit. Sounds fun.

with basic honey mead to have a base line, there are a few questions, 1.- proper fermentetion temperature range, what is too hot, and too cold? i want to prepare a room for this 2.- a timeline from zero to bottling, to have a good idea of how long i shoud wait on fermentation? 3.- the possible "emergency procedure" for when stuff goes wild, if any. likely this only applies to fruit based, but you have done it longer than me. 4.- what are indicators that the brew has failed mid process? when should i abort or salvage? this also applies for the bottling 5.- does impromptu transportation / agitation affect the fermentation? thank you for your time and all that you teach here

What is the optimal temperature? Also, what is a good sanitizer to use? When I say I'm new. I mean I'm still waiting to buy my first kit on Friday. Just trying to make sure I have a good environment for my first batch. Also, about how long does a batch take to produce?
@goldenhivemead4 ай бұрын
For this yeast, room temperature is ideal. 68-72 deg F is perfect. I use starsan which is an acid food-grade sanitizer… it’s what almost all homebrewers use. The time it takes to ferment is usually less than a month. After that, each batch varies, and depends on if you want to backsweeten, age, clarify, etc. (usually a batch can be completed start to finish in less than 6 months)

i have heard that this process can also produce methanol which would be not good if you drink it.... du you have something to test if it was produced?
@nordicstorm96664 ай бұрын
It will be produced, just like it is when you make any alcohol. The thing is, what negates it is.. alcohol. What you are thinking about is distilling, when you take brewed alcohol to make higher ABV. In that process you can risk concentrating the methanol too much in some runs, which is what is dangerous.

I may have missed it but does the starter kit include the sanitizer to clean the glass?
