Assassinate moves you behind the boss apparently. Pretty much every rogues main ability

Assassinate moves your characters hit box so he wasn't where he was supposed to be for the partner stack due to animation lock and location change

Ignis was too close to Ferro at that one instance so Ferro got clipped by both stacks. iirc ferro has a vid of it on his channel.

assassinate works kinda like dragoon's jump where, (in the case of assassinate) it temporarily moves your hitbox inside the boss for the animation. This isn't a purely cosmetic effect and that means that any mechanics where you're targeted, or you're supposed to stand in a certain spot, etc. can be messed up by using assassinate at the wrong time. You also use this ability every 60 or so seconds in NIN's rotation, so sometimes you have to be mindful of this interaction. Thankfully the ability's proc lasts a good while, so even if you're worried about doing optimal DEEPS you can in theory delay it so long as it still lands within the raid buff window, but often times using it immediately after Dream Within a Dream procs it is just reflex.

Assasinate is like Dragoon's "Jump" where it has animation lock and moves your character's hitbox. During the animation, it moves your character's hitbox to inside the boss as the animation has you executing it directly on their head. Basically, it moved him away from his stack partner because it didn't consider him "there".
