This is just a very nostalgic song that's really simple and fun to play. It's been years since I listened to it before I spontaneously decided to do this drum cover, I remember back almost 10 years ago when I first started learning the recording process and everything, sitting in my basement and recording all tracks for this tune. I wonder if I can find it somewhere! Sure it doesn't sound that good, but it would be great fun to listen back to.
Either way, some parts of this cover aren't spot on as I was learning it on spot, but it's a fun jam!

First of all, thank you for the compliment! I usually just try to listen to the tom where it resonates well, and where it feels good to hit. Kind of controlling the pitch with the bottom head, and making sure there's no weird buzz doing so, too. When micing, I place the mics directed towards the center of the head. When mixing, I just try to let the tom breathe, and trying not too use too much of the close tom mics!

Ahh, phrasing is confusing! I meant that the song is simple (not necessarily easy - just not complex), and fun to play. It can definitely be challenging depending on what you're used to playing! So many upbeats, etc.

How did you remove the actual song's drums from the background track, so that your drums only played? Did you find a multi-track copy of this song?

Hey, Zeb! The drums are actually not removed from the original track, just mixed in a way so that your ear believes it's not there, basically. Same goes for all of my drum covers, none's been drumless yet! (The studio performances are though; 5 For Eddie & Final Notice). But yeah, just mixed to work!
