I would take these forecasts more seriously if they had a demonstrated track record of being correct. How closely did previous predictions match reality? Without a track record, any prediction is just a wild guess. And if your investing requires being right about the direction and timing of markets, then you are not really an investor; you are a short-term trader.

What good is it to buy physical gold when you can't sell it "anywhere" without getting ripped off? You can't go to a bank and say "give me cash for all this gold".

The best way is through an ETF like SPDR Gold Shares. Buying physical gold and later trying to sell it isn’t worth the hassle.

@@JayseabeeSTL I agree, in general, however, it really does seem like there’s extra money being flooded into stocks, simply because Trump won the election and I suspect by the end of the year things will cool down a little bit. So the problem I’m seeing is if I buy a few hundred dollars worth of VTI now and then it levels off at a lower price. I’m kind of cheating myself and should have just waited a little bit.
