Thanks! That was actually the only one that was someone else's design (credit in video and description) but I loved his design so much that I wanted to use it. It's actually pretty hard to get all those hands on in place without the other ones falling off though, that's the only trouble with it

Sorry for using hard-to-find pieces. I hope you can adjust the design so that you can make without those pieces. I always try to make the design look the best I can, which is sometimes I use some rarer pieces if I have them.

The lobster design was actually the only thing in the video that I didn't design myself. You'll see it says the name of the guy in the video and in the description. On the guy's flickr page it said he was actually trying to make a facehugger and it turned out wrong so he made it into a lobster. As for my own techniques of building, it is mostly just trying lots of different things until something works!

Most of them I break up because I need the pieces for other things and I don't have enough space to keep everything either. But I do have a few that I've kept - the house, the throne, baby Yoda, the pug, and a few others. I would have kept the stork but I had to put one of the pieces back into a set that I took it off for the build!

How long does it take you to design these?

When I did with 10 pieces, they would take on average 30 to 60 minutes per design. 20 piece builds seem to take longer, but it's only the 4th 20 piece video I've done so I'm not sure yet. Maybe 90 minutes per build on average. Of course there are some simple ones that come together quicker, and some I struggle with and break them 3 times before deciding on the design.
