About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.

You having ADHD, if anything, has made your videos more enjoyable from my standpoint. I have ADHD too, and it's great to see someone doing something they genuinely enjoy, communicating in a way that resonates, and not being overly concerned with what other people think. If you have ADHD, pleasing people is an impossible task anyway. We just are "built different" as the zoomers say.

I’m 79 and the older I get the more I realize how unimportant it is worry about impressing people or caring whether people like me. The more I’m around people the more I like animals. I’ve lived on 14 acres in western Pa. for the past 52 years. I sit on my patio and watch deer, wild turkeys, foxes, in our field. This summer I watched 6 fawns born this spring growing up and becoming adults. I sit here and look at the leaves on the trees changing colors as we get deeper into fall. I only see my neighbors houses in winter when the leaves are off the trees. We basically live and let live, but if we need any help all we have to do is ask.

People: You’re not a farmer! Also the same people: “I inherited my daddy’s farm so I’m a farmer!” If you work on a farm, raising animals for food, you’re a farmer. You started from zero and have worked up to this. Imagine if you had inherited a couple thousand acres? I once had a man tell me my mom ran a “hobby farm”. The moment it left his lips, he knew he said wrong. That farm fed us my whole life. We didn’t have much money for anything else, but it fed us better food than you can buy in a store. I am not a farmer now, and I can’t find the grass fed pork we grew up on, pigs raised out in the sun, eating grass and the non-gmo corn we gave them twice a day. It was gooood pork. Our chickens were also off the best table quality. Some people just like to put down others.

Here are 10 things I LOVE about Morgan Shaw... 1. He seems kind, certainly evidenced by his reaction when one of his animals die. 2. His approach to farming is ethical. 3. He followed his dream. 4. His videos educate and entertain. 5. His relationship with his wife seems so cooperative and loving. 6. Ducks, geese, chickens, and furry furry cattle! Wow! 7. I'm in agreement with his viewpoint on hound hunting. 8. His relationship with Tobby Dog, now Abby, too, and his adorable barn cats. 9. His candor...opening up about his ADHD and other struggles. 10. SO industrious and focused on his farming goals There's more I like and appreciate, but I promised only 10 (and if he reads this, I'd not want to embarrass the man with my gushing.)

Organic, conventional, sustainable. You name the type and size of farm and they are continually drawing closer together on values, practices, and standards. A weaknesses exposed by the pandemic is no farming model in this country can feed its surrounding region. Small diversified farms produce limited amounts of many products. Larger specialized farms produce high volumes of three or less products. Neither does a great job of providing for the community. The farmers don’t solely hold that dilemma. The processors and retailers are equally challenged. All are dependent on a global distribution system that is current strained beyond any conceivable estimates prior to March of 2020.

I feel ya on the ADHD. I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my late 20s, and all my other siblings have been diagnosed for it as well. The only people in my family that haven't been diagnosed are my parents, and I'm pretty sure they have it as well. Also, why does it bother people so much if people don't have kids? Is it like a "I had kids and was miserable so I want you to be miserable too" sort of thing (not to imply that kids always make people miserable, some are great, but it's not for everyone, y'know)?

You aren't afraid to fail 2. You are honest, and share your mistakes 3. You care so deeply about your animals and show emotion for them. 4. You care about the environment and actively make decisions to support it. 5. You take responsibility of a lot of lives, including those that do not belong to you. 6. You are a genuinely kind person when responding to fans. 7. You are respectful to those who aren't kind to you, but you also manage to tell them where their place is and when they cross the line. 8. Your hyper-focus means when you get stuff done, you do it WELL or try again. 9. You try new things: cows AND bees!! 10. You're fantastic at training Toby to do his job, and for your flock to go to bed. Not many people succeed in these feats and that's not to be pushed aside! We love you Morgan as a human. It is my experience that people typically don't like qualities in others that are either over represented or under represented in themselves. So it isn't really you or your qualities they don't like. They don't like the abundance of quality or need for more of the quality in themselves. You are just a mirror for them. An adaptive response would be to take a look at themselves and make needed changes instead of lashing out at you which is just hurtful, pointless,, and unnecessary. You are a farmer. You are entertaining. Your love and respect for animals and the environment is admirable. Your desire to teach others and make a difference is amazing. Your willingness to put yourself out here and so graciously address negative feedback speaks volumes of what a quality person you are. Please keep doing what you are doing. Many of us only see the good in you and what you are doing. You are appreciated.

My grandparents have always been farmers their whole lives. To me a farmer is someone who grows their own food. They raised their own meat and had a garden. They hade 5 acres of land and that’s all they needed. I wasn’t aware there was a perceived definition other than raising and growing your own food. Crazy. People who have issues with you or your personality actually has more to do with themselves. I enjoy watching you and appreciate the way you approach things.

I totally agree with this! I think the term "farmer" has been co-opted in many ways by the big agricorps and we're being taught this "new definition" of what a farmer should be... when it doesn't have to be complicated beyond growing some great food!

Unfortunately, it not what capitalism makes farmers who want to succeed. Not what our 5 Nebraskan representatives sell out our farmers to. Farmers are doing ok. Yet, in the 1980’s being a farmer one was on welfare to make ends meet. The price of a combine, tractor, trucks, land gas inflation skyrocketed. One cannot begin a farm /have to inherit it. Plus the pressure to be socially keeping up with the Jones. Not possible. My dad worked 2 jobs all his life. Helping his dad with the farm, owning and selling land himself and loaning money to farmers. He’s retired at 80 to do farming and to keep my mom with the care she needs. Those are my memories.

I've come to your channel just in the last month. I found this video very validating, as I have many of those same qualities. I am a lousy marketer, and my self confidence could be so much better, and even as I am a little bit older than you are, and don't truly care about others opinions of me, it can still get to me. My ADHD was found late in life, and never having been diagnosed, or truly knowing why I had some qualities about myself I could recognize and hate added to my depression. Which I manage very well, thank you, but I have days. Knowing I was ADHD helped me not hate myself for past actions and disappointments. I came to understand myself better just with that clinical diagnosis. I am an introvert, and I am new to videoing myself, but I can ramble on, as I'm easily distracted, my mind goes "90 miles a minute" as my mom used to say. But, you talking about this list was cathartic for me in a way, and I'm sure it was for you. I have never wanted kids, don't particularly care for them, but have lots of pets. I have drawn so much hate for those two facts. But it is those 2 facts I have been honest about since I was a child. I live a very isolationist life, in a very small town in a very small state. And the COVID issues you hade no problem with, I don't either. My life really didn't change, except the mask issue. It made my rosacea flare. Otherwise, the mask saved me on lip balm, and make-up on those very rare social outings, and I could avoid my pet peeve in folks with really bad breath talking to me. LOL . So, this is long winded, but I just wanted to say Thanks! for just being and embracing YOU!

Anyway, I wanted you to know that your "emotional-ness", your compassion and empathy towards animals, your environment, your lovely wife, is refreshing and im so proud of you that you took a leap to live the life you dreamed of! Watching this video pisses me off at ppl. That they feel the need to judge you and point out things that (obviously) they have personal issues with about themselves. Are we not only mirroring ourselves in others? My gramma used to say that to me. And we are usually are own worst critics so we don't need anyone else's 2 cents! I think you're awesome! By the time I get there I've forgotten again. Sigh. I know certain medications that I've had to use during some of my other many medical treatments that shuts that thought tornado right off and I can focus and for a few days after those treatments I get an amazing amount of stuff done. But the medications are not normally used for this particular issue so of course can not be prescribed for said issues. Hugs Sarah I hope you grab hold of your life and ride it around like you're in charge. Oh my. The longer I listen to mr shaw. Genetically speaking, we are the same gene set that were cave dwellers 15,000 yrs past. Each of us is a representative of a successful gene combination which had roles they were particularly adept at. Could it be the ADHD folks stayed up all night fashioning the next generation of slings an arrows all the while tuned into the night noises and guarding the cave entrance? Did ADHD people calculate 100 chess moves of the distribution of hunters as they approached game and select the optimal strategy? Did ADHD people try countless methods of essential extractions to find which root was the best antiseptic? Who has declared ADHD people as being Not the Norm? Is it the vocal, boisterous, hands-on aggressive, easy to rile type? Hmmm. Point is, with the cave select analysis we all have reasons to be here. Check out "Quest for Fire". Do it.

Listening to night noises wouldn't be great when I completely zone out and forget what I'm doing. My lack of dopamine without meds affects my life in a negative way. I am not functional without them. Don’t feel pressured to respond to every message, the reality is that it’s a lot and a lot of us just say what we say to get a message to you; not a message back. Keep being you Morgan, thanks for your videos!

That is a very personal choice to have or not to have children. My older daughter asked me if I thought that she was selfish for not wanting children. I told her no, that it is better not to have them than have them and not want them. As far as negative comments, I have just unsubscribed to a few channels that disagreed with. It is as simple as that. Love your channel. 💖

I hear you in so many ways. I have ADD I was diagnosed when I was 35 and a mother of three. I have always struggled with clutter and getting distracted and so many other common traits. It also effects my confidence so very much. Like you I’m ok with lots of ppl I know but strangers or leg crowds not so much. Yellow is my confidence colour.

I love your videos. They're so pleasant, even the clash with Butch and his intimidator old codger cohorts. You always keep it drama free. Love seeing Toby and the fowl, cats, and cattle. Your approach to farming is so well thought out.

Ten things we love about you: Your willingness to try new things; your kind heart; that you are "not a cat person" but have four cats; your commitment to responsible land caretaking; your care for all the animals on your far; the open-minded way you try to understand unreasonable hunters; your humble attitude toward not knowing it all when it comes to farming; how hard you work at two jobs; your approach to problem solving; and your welcome to all the audience watching over your shoulder and backseat-farming. ;) Also: \o/ Therapy! More people need it! Keep trying if you don't click with your therapist.

I'm glad you are beyond letting others negativity get you down Morgan. I really enjoy your channel and my husband does also even though the gardening isn't as much his thing, but you have helped him learn more about our chickens and appreciate all I do every day and he really likes watching your videos with me now, will even turn them on before I do! Thank you for all you do, we appreciate you and I'm certainly glad you appreciate yourself.

Man, do I understand being an introvert. I used to be in the media business (retired now) and no one knew how introverted I was (as a matter of fact they would say I was an extrovert) but I have to tell you that I was completely exhausted when I got home. I live on a farm now in CT and it is a soothing balm to my soul. Introverts do what they need to do to make a living; no matter how taxing/exhausting it is to them. I enjoy your content here - wishing you the best in succeeding with your farm.

Hi Morgan, After watching this video, I was reading the comment section and it hit me that what your followers are saying and how they say it. It is evident that your content attracts people, men and women alike, that are people who think and feel deeply within themselves. You have a quality audience and they are not just watching you for entertainment purposes, even though you are highly entertaining lol. These facts speak volumes of who you are. Josh Yaks is one example of this in the comments section. To see one man express his love and appreciation to another man that comes from his heart is a beautiful thing. What he wrote , many of us feel, but he says it the best for most of us. I could go on, but I won't. Just thank you for raising people's consciences. Hope you can feel our appreciation of you.

The thing I like the most about you is that you're not anti-modern medicine. Somehow, a lot of homesteaders/farmers on KZbin are into 'alternative' medicine.

Not all modern medicines are equal. Some are trash and have little to no effect or are straight up toxic, others are modern marvels such as penicillin.

@@qwertpoiuy430 You are a sheep. Modern medicine doesn't mean the most effective medicine, it just means the most advanced medicine. Advanced and effective are two different things. Things advance for many different reason, just one of which is effectiveness. For instance anti depressants have long term negative effects on dopamine levels in the blood. It's an effective medicine if your probably gonna kill yourself and you take it for a few months, to help get mentally healthy but as a crutch for decades like millions of people use it, it's not only un-effective, in the long run, but also damaging.

@@qwertpoiuy430 you are completely wrong. The COVID jab is modern medicine and it doesn't seem to do much but give people blood clots. Anti depression medicine is also modern and straight trash. There are plenty of modern medicines on the market that are trash.
