Also the white silkscreen is a good hint about where to place the connector, one side has no silkscreen markings around it and the other side has a rectangle right next to the holes. Great video Alex, it's a pleasure watching you work on electronics

HI Alex its so satisfying to watch a professional at work although now 70 myself my father was a prototype wiremen and had to do micro soldering on many types of prototype multi layer boards on equipment now in common households and aerospace industries and had to wear head mounted magnified lenses and hand held he would find it absolutly amazing how his and your profesion have advanced over the years and also your mindset in your work ethic as sometimes you do have to make the decision enough is enough and not every thing is solvable or repairable he kept his frustrations under control until i tried my hand at it but thats for another day as i became a carpenter in the end as sometimes the only answer was i need a bigger hammer keep up the great work i know doubt you've inspired many with your content and great humour as always Better than factory

Learning from Alex, the benefit of using low melt solder and how important, very good flux, is to repairs, has completely changed my personal experience with soldering, and building some custom sensor boards for use with various SBCs. No matter how many times I watch Alex work, I continue to observe how to improve my own technique when it comes to installing and removing components.

Can you use low-melt solder for the final solder, or do switch between leaded and unleaded? Backmin the day we used rosin core 60/40 with no ventilation and tri-chlorithane to clean.

interesting! I have tried just yesterday to replace an hdmi connector I used only the air station it was all going well until I noticed the new connector was not exactly on place! because the anchor pins were somehow bent now i had something else to work on and I just quit on it for the time being but now after experiencing it myself the low melt seems more effective. I'll see how it goes 🤔
@BertoldVdb Жыл бұрын
Are you sure you had the right connector? Some are offset by half a pin...
@winlose3073 Жыл бұрын
@@BertoldVdb yes the right connector but I mean you need the pads and the holes to be clean to adjust the connector and place it correctly in case of any problem with the connector. This might not happen often if you have a new port but it is better that way so that you don't do the job twice or more.

I know people will like covering up the exposed copper, but I'd have skipped that unless I had green.
@big0bad0brad Жыл бұрын
Eh, if it's already solder coated I'd skip it in general unless it's to hold down a bodge wire, because otherwise it's pretty much cosmetic. There may be some argument against corrosion to re-coat bare copper if it got scraped.

what do you do to the solder wick? Is it just a consumable or can you reuse?

why do you wick the low melt? where is the solder removing wonder-gun?

Oh here's where I have some jank experience. I was working on a Nintendo. I completely broke off some connector that was straight through hole. The pen was stuck in the hole and the only way I was able to get it out was using the thinnest tip on my soldering iron a bunch of flux and a lot of patience. Those thin tips don't really transfer much heat

Excellent as always. I guess my only question is - is there only one type of six-pin power connector? How do you know what is compatible?
