i have just attempted my first one. i am only wondering what you do with the working ends of the last knot, the gaucho fan? these are the ends we ran in next to the working ends. my piece was a little uneven, but will get better with more practice. i learned a lot doing this one! great video, thanks for making it!

@Paracordguild I have made your 3 colour golf ball key ring, took me a lot longer than your video.....lol. The 2 colour looks great, but I would love to make the 3 colour, or a slightler easier version, on a mandrill.... Keep up the great work...I love the videos....

Aaaaahhhhh!!! That damn gaucho knot is eating my lunch!!! I will get it, I don't give up too easily.
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is probably the hardest thing in the tutorial. Do search around for a few tutorials on multi strand turk's head knots if you need more info! Mark
@bigdavedennis66687 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark, I will do that. On this gaucho knot, having the 3/4 done key fob hooked on to the mandrel just helps get my cords more scrambled up. I may just try making the gaucho on a mandrel separately and attaching it when I'm finished. That's not cheating, is it??
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
As long as it works it is all good :). Mark
@bigdavedennis66687 жыл бұрын
I got it made and it looks pretty good for my first attempt. I made the gaucho on a separate mandrel then slid it on the key fob, my only question is "exactly" how to tuck and hide the left over standing and working ends. how do you tighten the knot with the ends tucked in, I had to leave them out till after I did the tightening, then I had a problem trying to get them tucked. Thanks, I've learned a lot from your tutorials.

Lacquer thinner or lighter fluid will take off any printed markings on the golf ball. After removing the markings, wash with dish soap and warm water, then be sure the ball is dry before continuing.

Can a four strand foot-rope know be used to replace the matthew walker stopper?
@Paracordguild8 жыл бұрын
Sure, why not? The sky is the limit. Mark
@LeeSavidge7 жыл бұрын
Ok, I'm almost there. I've got the main turks head pineapple done. I've got the Matthew Walker know done. I've got the rope done and I've spliced it in. That gaucho though... The problem I have is that I can't do it on a separate mandrel. The clip on the loop is latched on and it is quite heavy for the job I'm doing as the clip is a quick release horse bridle clip. The golf ball has been replaced by an 8 ball from a pool table. Having these heavy things on the ends means I'm stuck making the gaucho around a heavy ended piece. What a pain! I will get there though. This has been 4 knots I've never done. And this last one is not going to beat me! The twisting cord is a pain as well as it twists badly when threading it through.
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
Excellent! Really glad to hear you did so well! I usually do not tie the gaucho on a mandrel, but directly over the splice. I used the mandrel because it is easier to demonstrate. Mark

thank you for this very good vidéo.
@LeeSavidge7 жыл бұрын
Video is brilliant. I will get there with this. Good angle and good visuals. When starting this video, you have a bunch of cord wrapped around from the standing end. How much, and why? If I have a 10ft cord, how much do I work with to get the knot and how much is left on the standing end?
@Paracordguild7 жыл бұрын
Hey! Good question! The thing is that after we tie the pineapple knot we still have to tie the Matthew Walker knot, the loop and the gaucho knot. We will tie those both with the standing and working end. So we can leave some in the standing end. There is no use trying to pull everything through the knot, since we will need to even out the length of the ends for tying later on. The goal is to have both ends about the same length after you tighten the knot. The cordage that you will require is probably at about the 6-7 foot range. It also depends on the diameter of your mandrel. Mark
@LeeSavidge7 жыл бұрын
I finally did it!! Took me about 8 attempts and takingit apart eachtime is no fun whatsoever. I wasn't sure about how to tighten it, but I worked it out. I think the rest is a little easier from here. If you have any advice on how to make it more equal in terms of the open sides. On mine, one open side is slightly larger than the other. I assume I just need to introduce a little slack to the tighter side from the loose ends, and then work it through the other side, which seems like it could be a time consuming job. Thanks for the video dude. It's awesome. I've spent about 10 hours on this thing so far but it's looking brilliant! Thanks to you :)

I get so excited when I find out the video I clicked is made by you... Wonderful tutorials... Can you show us how too add a 3rd color... I want to make a red white & blue covering... Team colors often have a 3rd color as a trim on their uniforms... Cleveland Browns is orange & black with a white trim... I've tried to tie one on my own but I'm just not getting it... can you please make a video showing how to do this... or post a link to a video already on youtube... Kenn < Keep your knots pulled tight...

Hi Mark, really enjoy your tutorials, very helpful and easy to follow. A ? if I may, how far in to the working end do you begin the knot or how much is wrapped on the mandrel, Thanks.
@TheBoesh8 жыл бұрын
Great video, where do you start, started twice but had to unwrap the whole thing as i didnot look the same as on the video. Where do you start with the first rope? In the middle, hoe many cm's from the end?
@Paracordguild8 жыл бұрын
Hey! It really does not matter too much as long as you have enough to tie the knot. When tightening, you can pull in the longer cords and adjust the knot so all cord coming out are about the same length. Mark

This is an excellent tutorial but I didn't hear you say why we should hide the text on the golf ball. If, for instance, it's the 2021 US Open special edition ball, is there a reason why I should try to hide it rather than frame the custom logo? Is it just because most golf balls aren't all that aesthetically pleasing? Oh! Also, where on earth did you find the mandrel or what did you make it out of and how? Thank you!!!

A redbull can should work. Also there is no need to hide any markings.

I think it's a secret. I've asked a couple of times. : ) Nice, isn't it?
@winterlight98 жыл бұрын
I can't find them either but the local Hobby Lobby has a brass jumbo perma lock lacing needle with a round flared head. I have taken these and filed down the opposite sides to make a shovel head that is to my preference, or cut them down and ground the shaft at a shallow angle so that it can act as both a needle or spacing nail. Somewhere must sell them but, eh, I work with what I can get. Biggest thing I learned in doing this is to get out the polishing tools and work out all the tool marks till the filed sides are mirror like.

what is a key fob?
@HrafnNordhri7 жыл бұрын
Key fob is also a word used to describe a key chain and several other similar items and devices. The word fob is believed to have originated from watch fobs, which existed as early as 1888. The fob refers to an ornament attached to a pocket-watch chain.
@tanalee098 жыл бұрын
Uh oh...On the third watch, I'm tying. It would be helpful to know at the beginning that you don't want to start the knots at the end of the cord, but to leave about 3 feet (?) for a tail to use for the rest of the project. [SIGH]
@Paracordguild8 жыл бұрын
Hey! It should not be that much of a problem. You need to retighten the knot a few times anyway, so just work in the length needed from the long end and pull it out of the short end. Sorry that happened. I am at your mercy :) Mark
